Should Companies Offer Fertility and Adoption Assistance?

Some working women make career their priority and then have trouble starting families because they put off baby making for too long. When fertility becomes an issue, should employers chip in on the costs of medical assistance? Conceive Magazine compiled a list of the 50 best companies with "family building benefits" for its Summer issue. The businesses in top slots offer perks like fertility drug coverage and financial aid if an employee chooses to adopt. Is it a company's place to get involved in people's personal lives?

Holy unwarranted assumption, Batman! Look at this first sentence: "Some working women make career their priority and then have trouble starting families because they put off baby making for too long." Uh, yeah, and some of us are infertile at 25 years old. Blame the victim much? If this were being written by someone with a shred of empathy for those with infertility, a medical problem, it might include information like: many insurers don't cover infertility treatments. Only a few states mandate infertility coverage, and even then, you may only be eligible if you've been married for five years and are not in need of IVF. Also, it's a bit of straw man to ask whether companies "should get involved" in employee's personal lives. Do you complain when your employer provides you with medical insurance, or basic life insurance, or maternity leave? Are your health, your life, and your bonding with your child part of your personal life? Maybe I am asking too much, but this post could have been a lot more accurate and a lot less condescending. I am disappointed in you, lilsugar.

No. If the companies insurance provider covers fertility treatments that should be enough. Giving a fertility treatment "scholarship/grant" seem over the line. What about employee's who have other types of medical issues?
