When Did You Know Your Tot's Eye Color?

Many newborns enter the world with dark blue eyes. As the pigment starts to develop, the color starts to change. Brown eyes dominate my family tree while blue eyes have a strong presence in my husband's. My daughter's eyes have been hazel for a while now, but I am waiting for them to turn brown.

Eyes are never guaranteed to stay the same color, but at what age did your child's eye color become clear?

I know this is seriously old, lol, but i wanted to comment on the eye changing thing... It's EXTREMELY common for blue eyed kids to change to green around 10-12, when puberty is setting in. I don't know anything about the genetics behind it, but just figured id mention that eye color changing years later is pretty common. All of my siblings, as well as every green eyed person i've had a chance to interrogate, changed from childhood blues to green around puberty. My daughter was born with blue that had a distinctive gray around the pupils until recently. At 2 1/2, the silver has changed to green, and she will probably transition all the way soon. Both my husband and I have medium green eyes with brillant yellow around the pupils.

My baby is 3 months and his eyes are still that blue grey color, but now they are starting to turn to a grey almost a hint of green and they're really cloudy. I have dark brown, daddy has green. What do you think? Can they turn dark still?

I am not a mom, I'm still a "kid" unforch. anyways, my eyes were brown and my entire family says they are, even though they changed and are hazel. They have been hazel for a long time and I always thought they were brown until just a few hours ago. IDK why I'm saying this but I am and, ya, bye.

I have been very puzzled about eye color, as I have always wanted a blue-eyed baby! (You always want what you don't have!) My husband has ocean blue eyes and I have very dark brown. Both my parents have brown, and both his parents have blue. (He has 8 brothers and sister, who all have blue). Our oldest was born with blue, but to my disappointment just days later turned brown, and have stayed brown. (She is 5) Then my second daughter was also born with blue, I was happy and they stayed blue till she was about 10 months and then they SLOWLY turned brown. It took till she was almost two for them to stay that way!!! But they are also brown, then I got my third shot with my son, who was born with the same dark blue eyes that my girls were born with, so I thought for sure his would be brown too, but they turned a very bright unmistakeable blue like my husbands and have stayed that way for all his 8 months that he is, so we shall see!!!!!!!!

They used to say it was impossible. Recent studies have shown that's not. It's extremely likely, but no longer considered absolutely impossible.

I actually read that it was impossible for two blue-eyed parents to have a brown-eyed child. Brown-eyed parents can have a child with blue eyes, though it's very unlikely, since blue is a recessive color, and brown is very dominant.

My daughter was born with brown eyes! Prior to that, I did not even know it was possible...so, needless to say they never changed, although I do have blue eyes...

I have green eyes and my husband has very dark brown eyes. So I assumed our daughter, who just turned 2, would have dark eyes. She, instead, has these amazingly vibrant blue eyes.. so blue the whites look greyish blue. So I guess you really can never tell.

They've never said it was dependent on one gene, but there was a chart that supposedly had all possibilities. In recent years, they're finding that eye color, amongst other genes, isn't easily determined at all. According to the chart, I have like a 2% chance of having blue-eyed children, yet all three of mine are blue-eyed. We even participated in a study on it when we had my first. *lol* My nephew's eyes changed from blue to brown well after his first birthday as well. In his one-year photos they're still bright blue, but at about 18 months they started to turn brown and eventually became all brown. And beautiful.

i always thought eyes were done changing by the end of the first year. but my oldest's eyes changed from blue to green at 5 years old. my mil says hers did the same thing. i also just recently read that eye color is not dependent on just one gene.

My son is 16 months old and I still don't know what color his eyes are! They're grayish greenish, and some days are more one that the other. I wonder if they'll ever settle on one.

Blue's actually recessive not dominant. It's unlikely that two blue-eyed parents would have a brown-eyed baby but they're finding that it's not cut and dried like they used to think. Genes are complicated little buggers.

My husband and I both have brown eyes so it was kind of expected even before her birth that she would have the same color and she does.

My first son had bright blue eyes at birth and everyone gave me such a hard time "oh they will change" but his are still brighter than bright. the 7 month old was born with gray eyes which I love but they are warming up to be a bit brownish.

I knew when I was pregnant! My eyes are blue and my husband's are blue, and blue eyes are a dominant gene, so there was no question that my twins would have blue eyes.

They were a dark cloudy blue at birth... and our doc mentioned they usually get darker... so i thought they'd be like my dh's (dark dark DARK brown) but his eyes are now (10 months) a clear green/blue color (like mine)... they look blue sometimes and others they look green.

At birth. Mine were all born with my blue eyes and stayed that way. They do change color with what we wear, but they're blue eyes at heart.

My son's eyes are still blue, but I wonder if they will change. I have really dark brown eyes and always assumed his would be brown too (even though my husband has blue eyes). I'm still shocked they are blue and wake up every day expecting a change. But he's 7 months now, so maybe they will remain blue. Who knows!

right now my 10.5 month old has blueish brownish eyes. it is so bizarre. I have brown eyes, and my husband has bright baby blues. People either say "what big beautiful BROWN eyes" or what beautiful BLUE eyes. I don't know, I think they are going to go brown but right now they are brown on the inside and blue on the outside...very interesting the eye color thing.
