Do You Let Your Children Carry Their Siblings?

Babies love to be held, but who picks up the wee one in your house? While lots of children are eager to lend a hand, is it dangerous to allow a big sister or brother to carry around their younger sibling? Fearing an accident, some moms and dads only let their children hold the baby when they are supervised or sitting down. Other parents allow their older kiddo to lug the lil one around. What are the rules in your household?

I would think it depends on the age of the older child and how responsible they are.

I was carrying around newborns+ from around 5 years old. Sometimes I think my mom was crazy, but I was capable, responsible, and wanted to. I think it depends on the kid, just ilke most things.

my oldest carries the baby around. He is still supervised, as the baby is always where I am. He wasn't allowed to do this without support when she was younger, but now that she is a year, he does it when he sees it as neccessary, and only after he tells me...unless he sees it as an emergency (she falls, or she tries to go to the stairs, etc.)- she is very attached to him and likes him to pick her up and hold her. I think common sense is important here. I wouldn't let him pick her up and carry her all over the house just to do it. My kids are always supervised...it would be diff. with a significantly younger child and baby, when the child has the impression they are just allowed to pick up the baby whenever they want.

I let my daughter carry my son so that another person in the room can hold him. Other than that, I don't let her carry him around.
