Do You Include Kids in Your Anniversary Celebrations?

On one day of the year most parents celebrate their togetherness. Some plan a romantic rendezvous while others opt for a simple dining experience. The goal for most is to getaway from the kids for a small period of time so they can honor their anniversary and age-old commitment to each other. While some pairs choose to keep their affair between the two of them, others include their children in the festivities.

It depends on the year — sometimes we've celebrated ourselves and other times we've celebrated as a family. It usually depends on what day our anniversary falls on and if we can get a sitter.

That is your day for your marriage to come first (although I think it should all of the time, because the kids will naturally dominate most of your attention and you have to really actively TRY to give your marriage as much attention). You don't love your kids less if you leave them with the grandparents overnight.

The way I look at it, our children are a part of our lives everyday and I feel that at least one day a year they can have a sitter and we can have a night to ourselves. We do go out a little more often then once a year but I think you know what I mean. The kids are welcome any other time.

My parents never did. My brother and I would make them presents, but they would go out at night without us. It wasn't too bad, though. We got pizza on that day when we got older, haha.

I chose yes, but only because we really don't have another choice. We have no family here and don't really have a babysitter, so we have to include our son. This year we opted to just stay home and make our favorite meal. Maybe next year will be different and we'll be able to go out!
