It has been the worry for many a mother this Fall — H1N1. Schools have been closed for it and a state of emergency has been declared by the president. While many moms are choosing not to inject their wee ones with the vaccine, others are standing in clinic lines for hours hoping for their share of the shot. Since children and pregnant women are considered part of the highest risk group, it is natural that child caretakers should also try to guard themselves against the illness. Many mamas who aren't necessarily fired up about getting an H1N1 vaccine for their child may request their nanny get one. So tell us, are you asking your childcare provider to get the vaccine when it's available?

If I was not pregnant I would get the H1N1 vaccine. I would have no problem asking my nonpregnant caretaker to get one either. I obviously could not INSIST on it, but I would ask, sure.
1I would if it didn't take an act of God to find the vaccine locally....good thing all the GOldman Sachs guys got the vaccine though!!!
2Sounds odd if a mom would never let her kids getthe shot because "its dangerous" or "hasn't been tested enough" or whatever, but make their nannies get one? That seems really weird to me.
3I wouldn't, no. What people choose to inject into their bodies isn't my decision to make. Plus, if I weren't getting one for myself (which I'm not), it's pretty rude to ask someone else to do it.
4It's more likely that your child will infect his or her caretaker than the other way around. The caretaker should be insisting that your child get the shot!
And "mama" doesn't want to give her child the shot because of unfounded safety concerns, but wants to ask a caretaker to get one? Oh, entitlement...

6Nothing in the article states that that's even a well found situation anyway, I wouldn't start getting up in arms about mothers forcing their nannies into the shot.
I don't actually know anyone who has gotten the h1n1 shot around here except my aunt's husband and considering he has emphysema and a host of other issues that cause the smallest chest cold to be lethal, he didn't have much choice. It was kind of surprising to me, I figured more people would be getting it lower testing or not.
7I am 35 weeks pregnant. I got it, my 3 and a half year old got it, my husband, brother, sisters and mother. My m-i-l and s-i-l are getting it next week. They know that my fetus cannot get it so they are doing what they can to keep him from becoming ill. And my father didn't get the shot because the flu found him first, so I won't ask him to get the shot. If I had a nanny, yes, they would not be allowed in my house without it.
