Purchasing Identical Gifts For Twins: Double the Fun or Dumb?

Twins share a birthday, but should they share every present? People want to be fair when they purchase items for multiples, so they often buy the exact same item for each child or those in coordinating colors or patterns. Does this make things easier for all involved, or is it more practical for gift-givers to choose separate products for each tot as they would for any other age-spaced siblings?

My cousin has fraternal twin boys, and I never buy them the same things, but usually variations on the same idea.

i have twins and for my own personal opinion - i really don't like the identical gift thing. granted my twins aren't identical, so that's part of it, but i think that the biggest issue is that they may be twins but they aren't the same person. my girls look very different and have very different personalities (even at just 7 months) so at least get 2 different colors in whatever you get them. please :)

I'll be giving my twin niece and nephew separate presents. I think it is a little easier since they are different genders, but even still, they should at least get their own presents! They are individuals!

This is good to read because one of my good friends is expecting twin girls and I'm trying to figure out what to get for her. We are also throwing a shower for her, so all of these shower posts have been helpful!

I agree with starbucks - certain things there should be two, if they both would love the gift, and it's not something easily shared. BUT I think if the kids have seperate personalities (or genders) and interested, then get them something different. At a young age when it doesn't much matter, you can get them both "clothes" for example, or "books" but choose two different outfits or books entirely. Especially since they won't know the difference. I am a huge fan of making multiples feel unique. I hate when I hear of twins and triplets who have to share a birthday cake. Like make 3 cakes, for the love of god.

I don't even know any twins...but I guess it's always better to treat them as individuals! Those onesies are darn cute, but I would want them to be able to develope their own identity. Now, buying each one a gameboy (do those things still exist?) would be fine. My brother and I each got our own...

Separate gifts! I grew up a twin, and while my brother and I would fight over who got to play with what sometimes, we had different interests and learned to work our fights out. I could play with his RC car, but only if I let him play with my art set. About half an hour later, we'd lose interest in each other's gifts and go back to our own toys.
