How Much Did Your Baby Weigh?

My friend's father is an OB/GYN who delivered the largest baby on Georgia's records.

The infant weighed a whopping 17 pounds! Since its mama suffered from gestational diabetes, the child was much larger than typical babies.

How did your babe weigh in?

* Note, my friend's dad was not the woman's doctor – he happened to be on duty that night.

My son was born 2 weeks overdue and weighed 10lbs 4oz. We are currently expecting again and the baby was 4lbs 3oz at 30 weeks! I have gestational diabetes...

I had gestational diabetes and my son was 7.13 I also only gained 9 pounds while pregnant.

my son was born 3wks early at 5lb 9oz. he's now about 17lbs at 6mos. he's a big boy just like his daddy. :)

My boy was 8.3 lbs at birth. :)

y25bbles- I think it depends on whether or not her weight gain conforms to a curve. If she has always been on the lighter side I don't think it is as worrisome than if she was in the 50th percentile all along and then suddenly dropped off. It also can be a result of increased mobility if she just started being really active, but a doctor could tell you definitively.

My daughter is only 20lbs now and she is 14-month old. Is she too light?

My little one was 6lbs 13oz, born two weeks early.

My first was 8 pounds 9 ounces at 10 days over. Second one was 8 pounds 5 ounces at 4 days early.

I had a 8.5 pound baby that was 2 weeks early. Had I carried her to full term, who knows how big she would have been.

We had a 10 lb 1 oz baby - no gestastional diabetes, but just a big baby.

macneil--I'm on the same page as faerymagick, I have a c-section scheduled for 3 days before my due date. They originally wanted to schedule it for a week in advance, but that is a Friday the 13th so I rescheduled. ginns--you go girl. 36 hours of labor and a big baby and no complaining from you. Nice to hear.

macneil, why did you have to schedule 2 weeks prior?? Mine was scheduled just 3 days before my due date.

I was 6lbs 12 oz at birth and my ex husband was 9lbs 3oz. Our first child was 8lbs 5oz and our second was 10lbs 2oz. My son, our 2nd, was about 12 pounds at one month!! By a year he was 30 pounds! My daughter, our first...was about 11 lbs at a month and at a year was about 26 pounds. Pretty average. Both my kids have taken after my ex now though. My son used to be a chunk, but solid...not fat at all. Now he is tall and slim. My daughter was a chunk as a baby and by the time she was 3 she was very slim and has stayed that way. I am so glad!! I am short and muscular and tend to gain weight easily. I am glad they don't have that problem!

Mine was about 5.5 pounds and I've spent a long time wishing scheduled c-sections didn't have to be scheduled 2 whole weeks before due date: she was weak and jaundiced and couldn't breastfeed and we had to fight to get her out of hospital. She quickly caught up, though, and has been chubby and gorgeous ever since.

I did not hve gestational diabetes or gain a ridiculous amount of weight, though!My dad's family has a history of enormous babies, but my immediate family did not so I was not concerned at first. Then, I seemed to be growing out of control. I asked one of the doctors at my practice about it (incidentally, the only one that turned out to be awful in every way) and she just said "You're just gaining a lot of weight" which I wasn't. I just had a major jump in measurements @ around 34-35 weeks and she still told me "you're within normal range"The next week I went back and saw a different doctor, who was like "whoa get this one under the ultrasound" because the jump in size was so pronounced. He thought I might have an excess of fluids and wanted it checked out right away. The radiologist was like "fluids are fine. Baby is huge"So I continued going for my appointments, but all the doctors seemed in agreement (except crappy doc) that I was going to be having something >10 lbs. We all agreed to let me try out labor, should it happen, but we all discussed the possibility of c-section.Back at 36 weeks or so, the head was down and in the ready position, but around 39 weeks, they checked and did not feel it. I guess he just got too big for the pelvis.anyway, I tried laboring for 36 or so hours (it really wasn't bad, since he was NOT coming out that way) and ended up with a csection.It wasn't so bad, carrying him, that is, but I have nothing else to compare to. The worst part was having strangers constantly stopping me to ask "how many" were in there.I'm 5'0 and small boned.
