Are All Birth Pictures Appropriate For Social Networking Sites?

Birth is beautiful, but should photographs of baby making its way out of mommy or shots of the bloody afterbirth come with a warning on social networking sites? People go to places like Facebook to keep up with friends, family members, and acquaintances. Is updating your status to include a photo of your pregnant belly or newborn different than posting a picture of the doctor probing your placenta? What's your opinion?

While I agree that everyone has a right to post what pictures they want, I'm also of the mind that these are the pictures I'd only really want my immediate family to see. Even then I wouldn't post it online anywhere.

Ok look. There's no question that people can post whatever they want on Facebook or Twitter or whereever they please. But I'll be damned if I'll have my stretched out vag plastered all over the internet. Did you know that the images you post on Facebook become public domain? Anyone can use them! Just google something like "vaginal birth" and up pops images from all over the place. With google's new sidebar that allows you to pick what size you want you can easily access images of some chic in Russia, sans bush pruning, with a ginormous, gooey head poking out of her who-ha. Gross! Sure birth is beautiful but really, it all looks pretty much the same from a certain angle and no one really needs to share those pix. That said, I respect your right to post whatever you think will gross out the maximum number of people.
People can post whatever they want. Whether or not you want to see it is irrelevant. I don't like looking at my cousin and her drunken sorority sisters' bar pictures, but I'm not about to tell her she's now allowed to post them.
I don't understand why birthing and breastfeeding photos are always singled out for this. It's FAR more likely that in the average news feed you're going to find people making out heavily or giving the finger, yet I rarely (if ever) see articles talking about that inappropriateness. Breastfeeding photos are removed from Facebook by admin, yet they allow fan groups for "Taking a Dump" and "F*cking."

They should have the right to post them, but they should be considerate. Some things are just TMI.
If I accessed from work and knew someone who was likely to post NSFW photos or updates, I'd simply hide them from my feed. Then from home, visit their profile individually to see what I'd missed (if it's something I want to see and just can't from work).

Most of my friends are at the stage where they are all having babies, and none of them post any NSFW birth pictures. Most of them are just top shots of them holding the baby, totally covered and then of the baby as its being checked out. I think its their right to post whatever they want within the TOS of the website. This is another one of those things i have no idea why people get so riled over. Its not you, its not your life, so why waste your time viewing it and getting huffy?

Yes, they have to right to post them, but a lot of the post birth pictures are NSFW. I can choose not to look -- except that it comes up in my news feed !

its their call.... im preggy and will give birth and i will choose to keep the bloody pictures for me & my hubby only hehe...

I'm posting pics of my belly, and I will when the baby gets here, but that's about it! My hubby and I are the only ones even in the delivering room! No one else gets to see it.

Agreed with anon. Yes, I think people have the right to post those pics. But seriously, why would anyone want to?
Yes, someone has the right. Others have the right to not look, or to hide that person if they don't like it. For instance, I'm tired of seeing my teenage niece's pictures of her and her friends with their boobs hanging out of their shirts and their butts hanging out of their shorts, so I simply don't look. But I still think it's her right to post them. I do think anyone who makes photos public is asking for trouble, regardless of the photo content.
