Biggest Surprise of Bringing Home Subsequent Babies?

Nothing prepares parents for their first child and the second brings an equal amount of surprise.

The Poop founder, Peter Hartlaub recently wrote a hysterical post about bringing home his second son (Congratulations!). He said:

While my wife and I discussed the possibility that Child Number Two wouldn't look and act exactly like the first, I really did expect a complete clone.

Mine are 17 months apart. I am shocked that I actually thought one infant was difficult! Talk about a walk in the park. I'm also truly amazed at how long it takes us to physically leave the house on any given day, and that I could love them "equally but different" just like my mom used to say. I've heard #3 and on are easier too. Now that my two are beginning to really play together and occupy each other well, I can definitely see that. We'll see!

When I had my first, I didn't think I could love anyone more than I loved her and when I got pregnant with my second, I was actually worried I wouldn't love him as much as I loved her. Needless to say I love him just as much as the first. I knew better the third time around. I love all of my babies so much. It's amazing how much you can love someone the instant you meet them.

my first and 2nd were 12 months and 4 days apart. i wanted them close but expected it to be very difficult the first 6 months or so because of the needs of the 2nd baby. but lucky for me baby #2 was a big sleeper and eater. it was very little extra work with the second because she was so calm, and she is still that much eaiser, it's just her personality. baby #3 however, oh boy. terrible eater, terrible sleeper, colic until 9 months (yes i know they say it doesn't last that long). as tired as i was after #3 it actually got more difficult when she started walking because my oldest was 4 but severely delayed. so it was like having 2 one year olds, when we went out one would run one way and the other the opposite way.honestly if all my kids were like #2 i'd just think i was the worlds most fab parent and the rest of you didn't know what you were doing :kiss:

I think the fact that I could get by on so little sleep really surprised me. I had an 18 month old and a newborn. My 18 month old was extremely jealous and wanted to sleep with me and would wake every time the new baby did. She wanted a bottle too at the same time. It was frustrating, but after about a month things calmed down. I started weaning her off the bottle slowly and with my crying the final 2 nights when it was done...she slept better and so did I. My new baby started sleeping through at 2 months, which was wonderful. But in that first month or two I was getting maybe 2 straight hours of sleep a night. I didn't think I could function on that little sleep. But I did. Going from 1 to 2 kids is hard. I have heard going from 2-3 and more is relatively easy compared to going from 1 to 2.
