Stiff competition leads to competitive rates when it comes to ringing in the New Year child-free. And, bringing home baby means securing the services of a sitter. But, for many new parents partying is worth the price.

I picked other. We brought the little one with us. Dinner with our couple friends and then wii play while the little one slept. It's was fun - it's true we were in bed minutes after midnight, we almost didn't make it but my girlfriend and I got sucked into Dance Dance Revolution!

I work for Sittercity.com and I find that it depends on the situation. It can be anywhere from a $2 to a $20 increase from the normal hourly rate depending on the circumstances. I don't have kids, but I have done the babysitting end of things. I think it really depends on the number and ages of the children as well as what else you are required to do. Also how long the parents are planning on being out. For me, I was happy with anything. I don't mind spending time with kids even if it's New Years Eve. You can have fun in any situation if you have a good attitude about it.

I don't have any kids but I've been on the otherside...babysitter. I guess it depends on the parent. I've had people who paid me SHIT money $25 a week for watching 2 midaged children who were BRATS! The Parents werent well off so I never said anything. I had a couple with a 6 month old and they went to a 4 hour concert. Baby slept the WHOLE time infact he was asleep before I even got there and they gave me $100. This couple was more well off as the man was a Surgeon. I would say a little over minimum wage depending on what they want you to do. If the job intails housework or if theirs more than one child then I'd say more. I really love watching babies so I would take that job for less money and would ask for more for watching older kids as they tend to be monsters lol.

when i babysat for my regular family on new years (when i was in high school), they paid me double. i think i got close to $200! they paid about $11/hour

i don't have kids of my own, but for NYE 1999/2000, I was hired to babysit, with a promise of at least $150 depending on when the parents returned, but they canceled semi-last minute and still gave me $40 anyway. I was 14 going on 15, that was probably the greatest day of my life to that date lol.

I choose other, because I am opting to stay with my daughter on NYE... in my family is tradition to bring in the New Year with the people you want to spend the following year with.
