The merging of technology and traditional games has yet to see its peak, as evidenced by the biggest toy trend of the year. All of your favorite games and characters received a digital upgrade — integrating with the app world for extended playtime. Over at Hasbro, the Game of Life was Zapped, and players can now create their own game pieces on the free app and then spin on the device for their turn as well. Later in the year, Monopoly received the Zapped treatment that included a credit card that is swiped on the iPad and serves as the payment method of choice.
Barbie went the app way with its Fashionista line. Each doll comes with a ring that unlocks free content on the app. Once they're unlocked, girls can change Barbie's clothes, restyle her hair, shorten her hems, and more!
Younger kids' board games also got the app treatment with Dr. Seuss App Play Games. The players match letters and numbers to those appearing on the app for more playtime fun!
