Your lil one's bookshelf may be bursting with board books and tomes filled with nursery rhymes, but it is only a matter of time before she'll light up at the sight of some and frown the instant she sees others. My tots both showed their love for three now well-worn copies of:

She's too young to tell me which books she likes just yet. But Dear Zoo is a favourite right now because she lifts the flaps and gets really excited about that! Since she doesn't care too much I just read whatever I want right now. The Wizard of Oz is our bedtime story right now...

My 3 yr old son just became obsessed with a dog encyclopedia I picked up from a sale shelf at a bookstore. We recently went to a doggy park, he pointed at a large white dog and asked, "Mommy, is that a Samoyed?" I thought the owner was going to get whiplash she spun around so quick! Jen - your story takes the cake! Too cute!

My daughters favorite book right now is a story i actually absolutely despise. My sister in law got it for her because my nephew loves it, and she took to it pretty well. Its this crudely drawn book about a woman who goes to buy a pickle, but the pickle gets up and runs away. Then like 50 other foods run after the pickle to catch it so it can be eaten, but in the end it gets away because a hungry little boy eats all of them instead.... yeah, not loving it. She goes through stages too though, and has an entire shelf full of books.

There are so many that my daughter just loves, and she'll go through phases where she only wants a certain book. The book she comes back to most often is called Doc the Ambulance, about an ambulance who helps a motorcycle who got in a crash. I'm a dispatcher and my brother is an EMT, so she hears about ambulances all the time. We rename the ambulance "Robin" and the radio "Jen," and she says "Copy!" to the radio when it gives the ambulance the call. At the end of the book, she goes back to the page with the radio and says, "We're out of service, goodnight!" It's SO stinkin cute.
