For delivering mamas, the second stage of labor can be the most arduous, so some moms-to-be opt for a birth stool to help the process along. Said to widen the pelvis and allow gravity to naturally help the baby down while reducing the chance of tearing, the stool supports the woman while she does a standing squat. Normally made of wood like poplar or oak, the furniture piece has handles and soft edges for safety and costs between $100 to $250.
