Back in the day, aluminum lunch pails or brown paper bags were the two main modes of lunch transportation for kiddos. Nowadays, the options are endless.

Some of the cooler lunch totes I have seen are those made by Built NY and designed by children's book illustrator Steven Savage. Dubbed BYO Munchlers, the pliable, insulated zoo creatures zip down to a placemat, which provides sanitary room for you tot's delectable delights. These critters are quite a deal at $10. Now you just have to decide between fierce tiger and smiley bunny.

These still create endless amounts of waste with the juice boxes and plastic baggies and individually wrapped single serving foods that are packed in them. I like using containers that are reuseable so my kids never have to throw anything away, like the Laptop Lunchbox. These don't look like they can fit a few reuseable containers in them, although they are very cute, for girls anyway. My son would never carry one of those.

My daughters have cute lunchbags from Target: one with Tinklerbell and one with Hello Kitty. I like them.

Those cooler-style lunch totes are very cute, but be warned, they are a *pain* to clean, because they have tons of seams and places for spilled food/drink to collect. And they start to stink after a while. Also worth mentioning is some are made with lead in them, or so I've heard. I would look into it before buying. My daughter has gone through a couple of them, and now I stick with a old-fashioned metal lunch box and a cloth bag I can throw in the wash.
