Amber Valletta Tossed the Television to Inspire Her Son

Model mama Amber Valletta chucked the family's boob tube hoping to inspire creativity in her seven-year-old son, Auden.

And, it seems to be working considering the imaginative lil guy has turned the couch into a doghouse, alien spaceship and the Yellow Submarine.

In the latest issue of Cookie, the actress admits that Auden isn't the only one who has been inspired. She and husband, Christian McCaw also have taken up instruments so the clan can rock out as a fam.

Amber is far from a loving mother. The kids mean nothing to her , they are a vehicle , that is all. I have called Amber and she was so drugged out that she could barely talk on the phone , and the kids were both screaming and crying in the background. Heroin is her drug of choice, hence her recent stint at rehab for "stress and personal issues" You cannot just check in to rehab like it is a spa , there is serious addiction and drug abuse criteria to determine your being admitted. Amber sold full frontal nude photos of auden to vogue magazine , I think august 2001. As far as her fine husband? I do not even think they live under the same roof. As for Auden`s father? He is a musician out of London , and did not even bother to ask to see Auden until he was 8 months old. I have tried to be nice here as per the comment request. If you are a mother , do not look to Amber as an example. Hilga N. is the children`s nanny and has raised them. Amber was pregnant with another child with Auden`s father , Russell , and the child was never born , the pregnancy terminated timely to where Amber could take the acting role in Hitch. Amber always watched tv when she was a child , and dreamt of being a tv/moviestar. I really really doubt if she got rid of any tv in her house. Once again , these are about the nicest things I can say about her , and while she asked me to remain a friend , I not so politely declined. It gets nasty on her part after that. My parents decided to live without a tv, but the decision only lasted until they inherited a tv-set from my dad's uncle. As a kid, though, I didn't watch much television, because we only had one channel until I was ten - and television watching was restricted to the half hour of children's programming that was on every day. And even when we gained a couple more channels, it was still just four channels, and my parents were fairly restricting in how much we could watch television. However, with my youngest sister - she's ten years younger than me, and has grown up with a lot of television channels, and my parents are much more lax in what they allow her to watch. Frustrating for me. I think that I would never let my kids watch whatever is sent on television for children today. I'm less sure if I could get rid of it for myself. I mean, I almost never watch actual TV, but I'm addicted to watching movies and tvshows on DVDs.

I grew up without a tv and that's probably the best thing that ever happened to me. :) You just don't think of it, you do plenty of other things instead. When I was older my parents got a tv but with only a vcr and no antenna, and every Saturday or other Saturday, we would all go to a rental DVD place, pick a film we all wanted to see, and watched it together on Sat night. TV is not necessarily a bad thing, but only when you choose to watch it and not crash on the couch because you can't think of anything else to do.

Webkinz are crazy. LOL My daughter is nuts over them as well. She has 25 and is begging for more. She has gone for up to 3 months without tv and she doesn't really care. She would rather lose tv priveleges than the computer. So to make an impact the computer and her little webkinz phone buddy has to be restricted.

we don't have tv and my girls do stuff like write music and stories. i was very impressed until a friend told me that in the old days that's what all kids did. before computer games and tv and even radio all kids wrote music and stories to pass the time. it's more creative than watching tv that's for sure. my kids have recently discovered webkins and now are frothing at the mouth to get on the computer. at least that's interactive.

I am an admitted TV addict and know I need to reduce or cut out most of my viewing when my son is a bit older (he's only 5 weeks). That will be tough for me. We have 5 TVS in our house and it's always been on most of the day for background noise, for when I work out, etc. But I know it's not good for kids and I'll figure out a way to still watch a few of my faves on the sly. Thank goodness for DVRs.

My mom tossed our tube when I was a tot. She tossed it when I was two and she was beginning to teach me my alphabet and simple words. In lieu of the tube I had story hour on the radio and frequented the library. I earned enough points from report cards so that in the second grade the family got another TV but my access was restricted. It was cool and I plan to do the same thing to my kids.
