Allow Your Kid to Go on Playdate If You Don't Know the Parent?

These days mamas are known for being overprotective, which made way for the term, "helicopter mom" but when it comes to your children playing at their friends' houses, do you allow your youngsters to go over if you don't know the parents?

I have never heard of 'helicopter mom', I'm going to be a shadow mom.

Although my daughter is 5 months (8-4-8), in the future, I plan to make my home "THE" spot to be. I'd much rather have loads of kids running wild at my home than any other persons house. When Ava is old enough to fully communicate herself,understand her body space, be more aware of her surroundings and the dangers that unfortunately exsist, she can then do sleep overs.(I'm thinking around 10). There is no way to be positive your child is safe, even if you've met the parents. The craziest, sickest people can be your neighbors, friends and family members.I'd rather be super vigilant than willing lead my child to danger.BTW-you'd be surprised how many adults are blind to perversity, or are completely ignorant to it's existence.

Do you you know how many creepers there are out there?!?! When I am a parent I will be a helicopter parent (or whatever the new term is). How can you trust a child or teen's judgement? I know how dumb I was as a kid and there are so many more scary situations you can get yourself into now. Trust your kids' judgement to a certain extent, but then step up and be a responsible parent!

No way! What a dumb idea. It's up to the parents to ALWAYS make that call on who is safe for their child to be around. Adults see things right away that children don't.

I agree with blue.. if they are young enough to be on a playdate, how exactly is it you dont know their parents at all..? Even kindergartners are 5-6, and I don't really consider it a playdate at that point, more just going to a friends house. Playdate implies its a situation for very young children the PARENT set up with another parent for their children to socialize..

Why wouldn't you know the parents of your kid's friends. As a parent you should get to know everyone that is involved with your children if you don't I'd say that's pretty irresponsible.

I agree with rosynose. Would anyone let their child go to a house where they'd never met the parents? I can see trusting a teen's judgment, but that's not a playdate.
