You may have hometown pride, but does your city cut it when it comes to raising a baby?
Fit Pregnancy magazine just announced its list of Best American Cities to Have a Baby. Portland slid into the most coveted spot followed by Minneapolis and San Francisco (home of Sugar HQ).
The cities were judged on specific criteria, the press release said:
Fit Pregnancy set out to determine what makes a city most advantageous for pregnant women, new parents, and babies, and to commend cities that provide a safe and healthy environment in which to have a baby. The magazine examined 50 criteria, including fertility services, maternal and infant health risk, access to hospitals and doctors, safety, affordability, stroller friendliness, and birthing options.

ummm best city for breast feeding??? who comes up with these?
1I just had a baby in Denver and had a fantastic experience from my OB to labor and delivery at the hospital. And also had a good experience with my fertility clinic.
2Go Mn! It's nice to have good things written about our cold city!
3san francisco & san diego eh?
4Portland? Hmm...dunno about that. The place is always so gray and rainy...i grew up close by, so i know.
I want my kids to live in a sunny state...that's why im in California now.
5Some of those are a bit surprising to me.
6Finally, a midwestern state is on some kind of list on Sugar. I don't live in Minn., but I live in Wisc. so I am close, and I like to think that somethings carry over!
7Denver doesn't surprise me for being on the list. It's a pretty health conscious city. Well Colorado is pretty health conscious anyways!
8Yeah for Albuquerque!
9Hmmm... I was once engaged to a man who lives in Minnesota and now has is raising his daughter in The Cities, so we'll pretend that I'm in one of the best cities-by-association.
10Oh, wow, my hometown is on the list!!! XD
11Hmm. I live in the southbay. does that count? lol and I lived in San diego. wouldn't mind raising a kid there.
12lol I live in Virginia Beach. I say we have probably clean hospitals for babies, but as for parks...we only have one big one! It is called Mt. Trashmore, and as you guessed it, it is made from a former dump. We have smaller parks, but they're not in every neighborhood like I saw in Topeka and whatnot.
13As for safest....we're not safe. We have so many bad areas, and the cities around us are dangerous like Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, and Newport News. We have 7 cities linked together that make up one large area, Hampton Roads. I demand a recount. What other 50 cities were in the running?
14Go Portland! cant wait to have a baby here
15I live in Jacksonville FL! I didn't realize we had low medical costs. Hmmm...Interesting
16yay mpls!! Now if only i could get preggers.....
