Last night as my hubby and I were watching Notes from the Underbelly, we laughed at the familiarity of the dilemma that the expectant parents faced in choosing a guardian.
Deciding who should be the guardian of your child can be a stressful thing. In the event that you and your partner are unable to care for your child, you want someone who would love them as their own to take over the responsibilities. Many times, the tots will go to the maternal grandparents. Other popular options are the fraternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and best family friends. Of course, we hope that guardians simply play the role of gift giver and special friend and never actually have to step into the designated role.
Who did you choose for your children's guardians?

Um, I'm ashamed to say that we haven't chosen anyone yet. It's such a morbid topic that I have kept putting it off. We keep meaning to, but here we are 10 months later . . . When we do draw up the documents, I'm quite sure the designated guardian will be my sister. Not just because she'll let our sweet bebe have Pop Tarts for breakfast, but because our parents are just too old to chase after a kid. So, if anyone has any links to a quick n' dirty online legal guardianship form, please let me know!
1Initially we chose my husband's brother and his wife. They're both teachers and have 4 amazing kids. But they have since taken on a slew of foster children with all sorts of issues. I'm afraid our kids would get lost in the mix. My family is out. So now we're going with some very good friends of ours who adore our kids and are unable to have their own.
2Gulp, this is one topic that we keep starting to discuss but never make a decision. It's really tough because when it comes right down to it - I don't want anyone other than us to raise our child! However, we do need to make a decision and to make it legal.
Thanks for the prompting!
