I friend of mine talked about putting this in her 2 year old son's room. She wanted to put chalkboard paint below the baseboard and magnetic paint above it!
1I think this was on Jon and Kate Plus Eight. The twins used this paint to mark some recycling bins. Pretty cool.
2Its a cool idea...but i have to say that i cringe when its time to get out the chalk for my boys to play with. They get it everywhere...sooooo messy! Personally i like them to play with the magnetic numbers and letters instead....well, for now anyway.
3I'm already getting goose bumps thinking about kids scratching the board.
One of my teachers is Deaf (I'm an ASL interpreting student, so it's cool, we all understand him) and I always cringe right before he starts to write on the board. He has no clue if he's scratching the chalk or not. I'm just waiting for the day one long scratch goes down that board. AGHHHHHH
4You must have been reading my mind - yesterday I was making a list of home improvements that I was to do and one of them was to paint the basement door with this type of paint! I plan on doing this in the next few months.
5This is awesome! We're looking for a new house, which means I'll be re-decorating the little boy's room, and I love the chalk/magnetic combo.
6I mistakenly used this paint on a wall that was next to my son's bed. Chalk dust everywhere on his bedding - ick!!! Quickly repainted and instead now have this in the playroom. My then 3 year old son was impressed that I was strong enought to move the wall from one room to another
7One thing to keep in mind is how environmentally unfriendly this kind of paint is to make and to dispose of. It's not any more harmful to the children than typical VOC paints or chalk dust, but the higher the metallic content in any mixed-material product (like wrapping paper or paint), the more the making of it damaged the environment and any recycling is practically impossible. For my money and kids' future, I'd buy a whiteboard or chalkboard and screw it to the wall.
