Whether a new mama plans on breastfeeding or not, she will almost always start to produce colostrum (the pre–milk liquid) and then breast–milk a couple days later. When it starts to come in, it's nice to be prepared.
I was lucky as a close friend of mine warned me about soaking through shirts and gave me nursing pads as part of my shower gift. During my eight months of nursing, I purchased cases of these suckers, I mean soakers. And they were worth every penny. I never had an embarrassing moment of leaking through a shirt in public.
I tried both disposable and reusable pads and preferred the disposable ones as I thought they kept better shape and were more sanitary. But I also have friends who swore by the washable ones.

I usually only need these when I first start breastfeeding, like the first month or so. I haven't worn any in about 6 months.
1I used them the entire time I was breastfeeding. I was really paranoid that one day after pumping at work I'd have leakage...
2I preferred the disposable, too. The washable ones didn't absorb at all fo rme.
I needed them the entire three years and then some. I did have some moments of leaking, but the first six months or so, I had incredibly powerful letdowns.
3My personal favorite were the Gerber ones, by the way. Thought I'd add those to the list.
4A few days ago, I found a used breast pad behind the dryer while giving the laundry room a serious cleaning.
Did I mention that I only pumped for the little one's first two weeks? ...and he's almost a year old?
5The brand makes a difference in the washable ones, I had some cheap ones that drew up when washed that were just awful. I only leaked in the beginning, or during a growth spurt.
6Moto, I still find them randomly around the house and it's been nearly two years since I weaned my second son. *lol*
I tried a bunch of brands of both disposable and washable. I never found a washable one that worked. Lansinoh disposables worked fairly well too, but Gerber were the ones that leaked least with me.
7tell me about it, im 30 weeks along, and ive already started leaking. =( and my boobs havent even grown....
8I really liked the Medela disposable ones. I really only ever needed these toward the beginning of nursing and I leaked waaaaay too much for the washables. I'd soak right through those.
9i had some lovely wool ones. they were super soft and never went all the way through to my shirt.
10I like the lansinoh ones the best, used them for 11 months for both pregnancies. They stick and absorb well.

12I used both the disposable and washable kind last time around. I've already stocked up on them for when baby comes. Those Johnson's ones look really absorbent.
I'm so nervous about nursing this time around. I really had a horrible time the last time, nearly lost a nipple (it stayed inverted for two years after I weaned my son). I know that was because I was doing something wrong. I've bought books and plan to do the classes at Hoag Hospital. I really really want to successfully nurse
13I nursed my daughter for 15 months and used the Johnson's nursing pads exclusively. They are incredibly soft, absorbant, comfortable, and don't leave the tell-tale line to be seen through your bra.
14I would not have been able to go out in public for the 1st 6 months if not for the lansinoh pads
15Johnson's pads were okay but I loved Lansinoh Pads. I tried the reusable ones but it was too much work to make sure I had them washed and dried by the time I needed new ones.
