Breastfeeding mamas should stock up on veggies if they want their lil ones to eventually go green says new research from the Monell Center.
And, parents are advised to keep the vitamin filled goods readily available since repeated exposure to vegetables also played a role in babies eating them.
An article on Food Consumer discussed the findings of the study that are published in the December 2007 issue of the journal Pediatrics. It said:
"It's a beautiful system," said senior author Julie A. Mennella, PhD. "Flavors from the mother's diet are transmitted through amniotic fluid and mother's milk. So, a baby learns to like a food's taste when the mother eats that food on a regular basis."

I was wondering about that... I guess my baby will like M&M's and pizza
1But seriously, I don't know if it's entirely true, I loved apples when I was pregnant with my first son and he does not like them.
With my first son I ate so much mexican food it wasn't even funny... I think I actually may have even invented the fourth meal way back then. My son will maybe eat a bean burrito but that's about it.
2Well, this explains why my kids loved veggies when they were very little. It was when they hit about 2 that they started refusing to eat anything green. And I mean ANYTHING green.
3I don't really believe that. My mom ate healthy and a wide variety when she was pregnant with me. But I am the pickiest eater I know!! (Seriously!) I only really like a few vegetables and some fruits... my mom ate (and likes) a wide variety when she was pregnant with me.
4I've always been a little worried about eating healthy and a wide variety when I get pregnant b/c I don't now, and I don't know if I'll be able to then.
My daughter eats things I never eat. Fish, for example. She's not horribly picky... she just has days where she's completely uninterested in food and just wants milk all day. Today is one of those days.
Anyone check out Jessica Seinfeld's book about mixing veggies in with other foods? I want to get that and start doing that.
5I don't think I buy that entirely. My daughter likes the same foods as my husband does. And he didn't breastfeed her.
Go figure!
