Every class I took and every book I read to prepare for motherhood told me that swaddling my baby was a must. With so many blankets options out there, I couldn't decide. But my girlfriends said, "the Miracle Blanket really is a miracle!" over and over again. At $36 a blanket, I bought just one and packed it in my hospital bag. From the day she was born, my babe was swaddled like a burrito.
The blanket is like swaddling for dummies. It has a diagram to instruct you and there two wings stitched in to the fabric to hold baby's arms down while you put her legs in the pouch. Once baby is "pinned" in the wings and pouch, you wrap one piece of cloth over baby and then take the longer cloth and tightly wrap it around the baby before tucking the tail end of the long cloth up top. You can also watch a demonstration here.
This blanket kept my baby snug as a bug and snoozing through until feedings. I was given other blankets as gifts and tried to use them so they wouldn't go to waste, but they never worked as well.

I've heard excellent things about these, and always end up recommending them (although my own kids hated being swaddled).
There are cheaper brands available as well.
1I had a hard time getting my baby in this product. I felt like I was wrapping him in a tiny little straight jacket. Plus he hated (and still does) having his hands covered.
2Haha those pictures are so cute!!!
3I heard great things about this blanket...
4Thanks for the information. I've seen some at Target for around $20 and I'm wondering if they would work the same. With my first two babies we swaddled with regular baby blankets but I'm looking for something that will really keep the new baby in place without much effort. I believe very much in swaddling as babies are used to a confined space.
5I believe very much in it if it comforts the child. But seriously, my kids screamed if they were swaddled, from the moment they were born. They wanted to be free. I never understood it. *lol*
6I LOVE this blanket! For the first couple of months my firstborn was swaddled using a regular blanket but after a while he would find a way to get out of it. My husband found the Miracle Blanket online and boy what a difference a proper swaddle makes! My son absolutely loved being swaddled and slept peacefully for at least 5-6 hours at night. This was a huge improvement over only 2 hours with a regular blanket. We also used this blanket for our second and she slept through the night (8-10 hours) from the start. I've bought one for a girlfriend and now she loves it too! Every baby is different and if yours likes to be swaddled then this is one of the best investments we've ever made.
7This is the best!!! I used the blankets when my sons were less than 3 months and they worked very well. Very easy to swaddle my boys with them.
8My daughter only slept when the nurses swaddled her while we were still in the hospital. I just couldn't figure out how to wrap her tight enough to keep her from getting loose. For two weeks when we got home she would not sleep for more than fifteen minutes at a time. Until I bought a kiddopotamus swaddleme infant wrap. It used velcro to keep her snug. What a life saver.
9It is interesting to see that swaddling is still being recommended in the US, because here in Europe, swaddling seems to have gone out of fashion. I gave birth two months ago, and I was told by various midwifes, doctors and peadiatricians that babies nowdays should be allowed to move their legs and arms freely, and that swaddling is old-fashioned and not recommended.
10In the hospital where I gave birth, all babies were wearing loose nightgowns (like little dresses) with arms, and they were covered by very light and loose blankets. I have tried various ways of wrapping my son (especially when we go out in more chilly temperatures) and it is quite clear that he does not like anything which restricts his movement, like swaddling.
I had received several variations of this blanket as gifts but this one worked THE BEST when I swaddled my son! He loved being swaddled for the first couple of months! The others were ok but he was quick to let us know that he wasn't happy! As for using regular blankets, he would manage to get out of them! I regularly give this as part of my baby shower gift baskets!!
11Good to know!!
12i have got to get this one...
how long are you supposed to swaddle after baby is born? i'm only 8 wks preggers now....
13I started swaddling my baby from day one and the nurses encouraged it, too.
14I bought several swaddling blankets because I definitely noticed my daughter responded positively to being swaddled. As she got bigger, I found that the Miracle Blanket was the only one that still worked because she was getting too big to be swaddled in her recieving blankets and the cheaper swaddle blankets. This just worked beautifully and, for me, was worth the somewhat steep price.
