It's hard to imagine being intimate with your partner after you've just delivered a baby and have been sleeping in three hour intervals. But, your OB/GYN will probably give you the green light at your six week appointment sending your husband into a giddy tizzy and you into a panic.
Before you run into your closet to hide, here are some pointers on how to get sexy again.
- Take a shower before bedtime to make sure you are milk, sweat, and spit-up free. While you're at it, shave your legs.
- Get yourself a babydoll lingerie set. It will hide any parts you are still feeling insecure about.
- Set the mood — light some candles and turn down the baby monitor!

The doc may have given the green light at six-weeks, but I had to be a little drunk to give MY green light.
1LOL--this is what im NOT looking forward to.
2OMG, I know lorenashley.
3I´ll figure out when the time comes, the booze will help LOL.
5 years and another child later, I am not sure we will ever be where we were before kids...
4bow chica bow wow,
5...and make sure they know to be *very* gentle...
6I can't ever wait till the 6 week green light...I'm so bad!
7As long as hubby takes it easy, everything will be fine, you're back in the "saddle" in no time.
You go, fragiletearz!!
8Wow, hvnly34, that is SO not what I wanted to hear, lol.
I'm told it will improve after I stop breastfeeding, but even though I miss sex on an emotional and intellectual level, from a physical standpoint any sex we've had since our daughter was born 10 1/2 months ago was strictly pity sex on my part. My sex drive is deader than Julius Caesar. Stupid hormones.
9yep - NEVER made it to six weeks! not even after the 10-lb. first baby.
just be careful. i would suggest condoms early on if you feel like have not fully back to 100%. unlubricated (you don't need non-oxynol 9 at this point, right!?) + some plain KY jelly is the best.
the part they didn't warn me about was the milk let-down in the middle of it. i totally sprayed The Husband in the face and he's covering his head and yelling, "oh, GOD! turn them OFF!" while laughing his butt off. i'd definitely keep a nursing bra on, even tho it doesn't sound sexy ... i'm sure your S.O. is glad just to be getting some action! LOL!
10oh, GOD! turn them OFF!" = funniest thing i read all week!
11I was laughing so hard during the Friday Night Lights episode where the wife got the "green light" and then had to explain to the husband why she just wasn't ready.
I wish your article touched upon that point because sometimes there are women who are still at the "yellow light" at six weeks. Sorry, but I don't have the time or energy to put out the candles and make the effort when it's not even something I'm interested in at that point.
Isn't that what the 2nd trimester is for? I think if the husband did the candles and the mood setting it would make a stronger argument FOR the green light.
If you haven't seen it and you've gone through the six week experience, definitely watch that episode of Friday Night Lights. You'll feel the pain of both the husband and wife! Episode 205: Lets Get It On!
