my baby will be born in september too!!
1This list is missing a few things like that we're 35th in infant mortality among industrialized nations.
That our csection rate is 6 times what the WHO reccomends.
And that our maternity care system is fundamentally broken.
2Doctors/Hospitals also fail to advise those relying on an epidural for pain management that they will still feel pain, often a lot more than someone who is prepared for natural childbirth.
3Yay! to all the above comments:
My baby will be a Sept baby too....already anticipating problems scheduling birthday parties (lol)
Our infant mortality rate is criminal.
My friend gave birth in Tokyo and went drug free -- not b/c she didn't WANT drugs, but because the anethisiologist only works from 9-5 in Tokyo hospitals!! It always makes sense to prepare for a natural labor.
4I had a home birth with my last child (of four) and it was great. I highly recommend it to anyone in a low risk situation.
5The claim that September is the number one month for births isn't backed up by the link. According to the CDC link, there were 7,000 more babies born in July of 2008 than there were in September. In 2007, there were 22,000 more babies born in August than in September. Check out the table: http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr57/nvsr57_18.htm#tableA
