Céline Dion and René Angélil are expecting an addition to their family! The couple who are already parents to René-Charles, 8, and René's three other children from two previous marriages, are said to have used the same fertility doctor that helped them conceive their lil boy. The singer, 41, and her manager/husband, 67, have long been vocal about their intention to give their son a sibling.
Fifty-seven percent of lilsugar readers said that it is selfish for women to get pregnant past a certain age, while 39 percent voted that having an older dad doesn't matter as much as having an older mother. What do you think of Céline and René's situation?

celine, i think, can handle it
renee is pretty old
but the real issue here is that poor child's hair
1sweet jesus that's bad
I come from the belief that if your body cannot conceive on its own if you are over 40, that you need to re evaluate why you want this child. Rene is pushing 70, by the time that child is getting into his or her 20s the dad will be almost 90, or dead.
2Her body "couldn't conceive on its own" before 40, either.
I think Celine's a fine age to be having another baby. Renee creeps me out no matter what the subject.
3moms do most of the work anyway!!! i know several women having babies into their early 40s. please.
4I think it's fine since she is in her early 40s; however, I think this is how she conceived her first son as well.
5I don't think Celine's too old, but I do think Rene is.
And I think it's silly and rather sexist to say that moms do most of the work anyway. My parents were equally involved in raising me.
6Yes. They shouldn't be allowed to have a baby until they take care of the one they have.... by cutting his hair!!!
7I agree with most everyone else who says that Rene is too old. Growing up I was always so scared of my parents dying (I still am), and they were in their 20s when they had me! I can't even imagine what that would be like if my dad had been almost 70 when I was born...
8They are definitely getting up there, especially Renee.
What I find hard to believe is that they have announced it. I read that she is due in May .... um 9 months from now?!
9Did she have the procedure and then make an announcement!
I dont think anyone should judge who should and who should not have children.
10While I don't think Celine is too old (there are plenty of 40+ pregnant moms out there), I do have a concern over Renee's age. They went through a specialist, but I know plenty of "opps" babies who parents were later on in life, and their parents are still around and kicking (all of these friends are 30+ now and their parents are 70+ now).
11Take for example, Maria del Carmen Bousada, who at 66 delivered twin boys. She claimed that since her mother lived to 101, she would be around for a long time for her children. Unfortunately, she died this year, leaving her children, who are 3, motherless.
This is a non-issue when it comes to Celine and Rene. I would imagine the nannies are going to be doing most of the child-raising whether Celine and Rene were 40 and 70 or both in their 30s.
12I don't think that either of them are too old at all. I'm in my twenties and lost my dad when he was in his 50s...you just never know. I think people tend to forget that not everyone lives to age 90 and any amount of time with a loved one no matter how brief should be treasured.
13I don't think it's anybody's business how old people are when they have children!! Parents can die in their 20s and leave small children for others to look after; what difference does it make what age you are. Nobody knows how long Rene or Celine will live so they might as well be happy and have another child. People need to make their lives happy for now and not worry so much about what might happen!!
14I agree with the last two posters.
15I think both of them are way too old. Gosh, who wants a 50 year old mother when they are not even 9 and a father who is getting close to 80??? I think they are being very selfish.
16both him and her creep me out, she can sing though.
17I think he's too old. There's a difference between parents who unexpectantly die young and a parent who WILL BE dead when the kid is around 20ish.
However, since it isn't just him having the baby I think it's ok. Celine is fine at 41 imo.
18She announced her first pregnancy almost immediately as well. I don't think passing judgement on who should be parents is a very good idea. And LOTS of people who think they will simply be able to have a baby when they decide to do so are surprised.
19I don't think that's anybody's place to judge but their own.
20I don't want people telling me when I should or shouldn't have children. It's a very personal choice. They obviously have a lot of love to share. Lots of women her age have healthy children.
He is too old. It is certain that this child will lose his/her father at a young age. Why do that to your child?
21Out of sincere curiosity, is age the only factor that goes into people who shouldn't have kids because they'll have a good chance of dying?
Should someone who is, say, morbidly obese, not have children also because they have a high chance of dying while the child is young? Should a man who has a heart condition not father any children?
Personally, I think the good years outweigh the loss. I'm glad I was born and had ten years with my father, rather than to have not been born at all and deny our entire family, both immediate and extended, that relationship.
22"I come from the belief that if your body cannot conceive on its own if you are over 40, that you need to re evaluate why you want this child". That's not a belief, it's an opinion.
23My parents were older when they had my sister and me (though not as old as Celine Dion and her husband)...trust me it is painful for a child if her parents are mistaken for her grandparents.
24If you are too old to have children naturally - don't have them.
She's not too old to have them naturally. Her fertility treatments are not due to age.
I had an older dad who was mistaken for my grandpa from time to time. I didn't find it painful, it happens to people in their 30s who look older too.
25Wow I never thought of 40 as being too old for kids!
26Ew when i heard this i was shocked. 40+ is def way to old to be pregnant. I think 30 is too old. Think how old u will be when ur kid is 20.
27The optimum age for fertility for women begins at the age of 18. Until about the age of 25, women will be at their MOST FERTILE and most likely to get pregnant. Beginning around 25 or 26, a woman’s fertility starts to decline. This decline is relatively gradual for the next ten years, however. It is not until the age of 35 that the process of losing fertility begins to speed up more rapidly. By the time a woman reaches the age of 40, she is exponentially more likely to have problems getting pregnant. In fact, around 2/3 of women who are over the age of 40 will have issues with infertility of some sort or another.
So Nadia, if over 30 is too old to be having kids, why does nature increase the chances of multiples as we age?
Being 18 and at my most fertile would've been a really terrible time to get pregnant, both for me and any children that would've resulted from it.
But thanks for the good laugh on how 30 is old.
28Celine didn't announced it officially. It was leaked out.
Celine is not too old. Was this qwuestion asked when Halle Berry got pregnant at her early 40's? How abouit Madonna who keeps having kids at 51?
29she's not too old, but he's creepy.
i think the best rule is that if you are in menopause or past it, you shouldn't be trying to have children. menopause is nature's way of saying "okay, done with the baby-making now!" & that's it. it's not any human made law, it's built in to our biology & is quite clear on when our bodies can't do it anymore.
30It is none of our business, they have been happy for years, and maybe they like Rene Charles long hair, personally, I think he should get a haircut, but what is good for this family or different, might not be good for us! Why can't people be happy for them! They do not go around making comments about other people's lives! Calm down people and just let it be, you can never guess when people die, so age really does not play a role. She is a wonderful entertainer who has done a lot for people, but, she does not broadcast it. If you don't like them, do not make comments, they have not asked for approval, because they are adults, if you don't have good things to say, don't say anything at all, Congrats! Rene,Celine and Rene Charles
31You know what, it's their decision.
I don't think (most of) people should have children so EARLY like Nadia said! Yes, PHISICALLY it may be the best time, but not mentally... People in early 20s are soyoung and immature these days(I'm not saying ALL of them of course). I think they're not as patient and euable like people nearer to their 40s. I know what I'm saying, my mom had me when she was barely 20!
Besides, like some of my predecessoes have said, you never know where you're going to die. You can die at 90, you can die in your 20s... My grandfather died at 36, he had a stroke - he just fell asleep and never woke up...
Celine is still young! 40 is not OLD. I wish them good luck and I hope Renee will live really long and he'll have the chance to see his children grow up
32I meant equable!
Could we PLEASE have an edit option here?
I just wanted to add - People, PLEASE leave the boy's hair alone! Seriously, you think they are bad parents because their son has long hair!? She's said a while ago Rene-Charles likes it so they're not going to force him to cut it off! I think this doesn't prove they've failed in parenting, huh?
