Teaching children about the birds and the bees is no longer a formal chat that happens during the tween or teen years. Many mamas choose to introduce the concept when a sibling makes her debut. Fourteen percent of lilsugar readers say they'd purchase a birthing and nursing doll ($90) to educate their kiddos about the miracle of life, while 43 percent of our mamas would invest in a Boobie Buddy ($55) or nursing doll. Now, a Spanish manufacturer has created an even more hands-on toy called Bebé Glotón ($62), a doll that comes with a halter top that allows children to "nurse" the baby. What's your opinion of the product — is it any different than buying your tot a bottle-fed babe?
Wow, what a bunch of uptight puritans. Breastfeeding is natural and young boys and girls should have such a beneficial, healthy practice promoted and endorsed so that they grow up
well-adjusted and interested in the practice for their own children's health. I feel sorry for every one who voted "inappropriate."
Yep, those people are way to uptight. Breastfeeding is natural and every child should know about it and in a perfect world, also experience it at birth.
I think, as usual, your poll options suck. Why can't you just say "Like it/don't like it" without anything tacked on?
I think it's kid-friendly but I think it's ridiculous. There's no reason why you need nipple-drooping pasties, my kids all just nurse their regular dolls.
I'm hoping a lot of those who voted "it's inappropriate for children to nurse" were really voting that the item itself is ridiculous, not that they seriously think it's inappropriate for a
child to pretend to offer their dolls nourishment. And that's why the poll options suck.
I think this is a very inappropriate doll for kids and the reason being is 1. the doll itself is a dumb idea, as before kids will tend to nurse their regular baby dolls especially if they see
their moms doing that with a younger sibling.
2. I think it's only right to allow the child to make up her own mind when she is an adult if she will breastfeed her own child. Breastfeeding is an adult and individual decision and
shouldn't be forced on kids when they are young.
I fully intend to breastfeed my children.
i voted inappropriate because of the actual product, not the idea behind it. i think kids will "nurse" their regular dolls if thats what they are exposed to.
having a weird halter top with flowered-stripper pasties on it is just odd. whats the point?
Other. I appreciate what they're trying to do here, which is bring about social awareness/acceptance of breastfeeding, but their execution is terrible. I don't think the product is really
necessary. I pretended to nurse my dolls and they were just Cabbage Patch Kids, I didn't need a special doll or a nursing halter.
when i was little i held my dolls up to my chest to immitate breast feeding. no need to wear a halter and lift up my shirt...that's a little uncomfortble to have children doing. they will
have PLENTY of time to develop their opinions on breast feeding and learn how to.

So I assume you feel the same about bottles that come with dolls, as the child make up her own mind as an adult and not have it forced on her as a child?
I think that it is a silly product, but the act of a child pretending to breastfeed is wonderful. I did that as a child and have breastfed 2 children and will with this next one too.
I don't think by exposing your child to one of the primary functions of a breast is indoctrinating/forcing her into any future decisions. That is just ridiculous.
Anyone who comments anonymously and writes "I feel sorry for every one who voted 'inappropriate.'" is the one I really feel sorry for. How about, you let your kid wear pasties and I'll let my
kids decide on their own what they want to do with their baby dolls. Also, are you saying that it isn't healthy to give my children bottles instead of breastmilk?? Why don't you step up and
post with a name so everyone knows who you are, whether you are right or wrong.
I'm not one for giving kids dolls anyway. I find it slightly creepy when I see three year olds pushing around little pink prams and swinging their dolls about.
I just don't get it, but it causes no harm so let them have fun.
However the halter top probably doesn't need to be thrown in with the nursing baby doll, I think that's taking it a bit too far.

First: At no point did I say it should be mandatory that every parent be forced to buy this doll for their child; if you don't want your child to play with this, that's your right as a
parent. But to deem a breast feeding doll as "inappropriate" is ridiculous. "Unnecessary," sure, I can see that reply as kids will breast feed whatever doll they have if they are so
inclined... but "inappropriate?" Uptight puritans. Breast feeding is why we have breasts, or have we forgotten this simple evolutionary fact?
And to answer your question, yes, it has been scientifically proven that breast feeding is healthier for both the baby and the mother than bottle feeding. If you bottle feed, more power to
you, it works for you and your family, but every book, doctor, etc. will agree that breast feeding is more beneficial for babies. It protects from SIDS, can increase a child's IQ, breast fed
babies are less likely to get cavities as they grow older, it keep children from putting on too much weight and starting childhood obese, can help keep diaper rash to a minimum, etc. AND,
women who breastfeed have lower risks of uterine, ovarian and pre-menopausal cancer, quicker postpartum recovery, etc.
In the future, perhaps don't get so hysterical; it's just an opinion (albeit one backed in fact).

3Totally inappropriate!
4Do you mind explaining why it's inappropriate? Is it the doll, the way it's portrayed, the fact that a child would be pretending to breastfeed?
And if it is the breastfeeding issue, do you also think doll bottles are inappropriate?
5I agree with post 3. I voted "no" because I think the item itself is ridiculous, not the concept.

14And to me, what's more disgusting is those bottles that are filled with orange liquid! Who gives their baby orange juice?
15That is just creepy! I have no problem with breastfeeding but seeing a child sitting their with fake nipples is disturbing.
