Buckle up your belly! As pregnant women grow, they find themselves having to adjust their seat belts to alleviate added pressure on their abdomens. An Australian company has developed a device that shifts the restraint while supposedly keeping the baby safe in utero. The Tummy Shield is a cushion placed under the expectant passenger. It has a hook that holds the lap portion of the seat belt under the stomach and around the hips and upper thigh area to protect the tummy from pressure. According to the company, if the car is in an accident, placement of the Tummy Shield will keep the baby safe and reduce injury to the mother. Would you invest in one?

This is a great idea, but I wonder how safe it really is. In a serious crash this could shatter your pelvis. I'd definitely want to see a lot of research before using this.
1I think this device or one similar was invented by a father whose unborn baby was severely injured or killed by the lap belt. There is more info on the internet.
2I would like to know more about it because I'm only three months and the seatbelt bothers me now.
3I could barely get my seatbelt on once I was around 6 months pregnant, and even then, I didn't feel like it would protect her if there was a crash. I would've tried this and if I ever have another child, I'll see if I can buy one.
4While I think this is a good idea, I'm not running out to buy one. My belly was HUGE when I was pregnant and I felt fine in the seatbelt. I'm sure for someone who is uncomfortable, this could really help.
5aw, cute!
6wait.. cute? wrong word!! Not enough coffee.. Good idea!
