It will be a meeting of the motherly minds in Long Beach. California's first lady, Maria Shriver, is putting together quite the mom panel — guests include everyone from Kate Gosselin to Kelly Preston — for her California Governor's Conference for Women in October. It was announced today that actress Kelly Preston who suffered the loss of her 16-year-old son, Jett, in January would sit alongside Elizabeth Edwards on a grief and resilience panel. This will be Preston's first public appearance since the child's passing.
Kate Gosselin, best known as TLC's mom of multiples and star of Jon and Kate Plus 8, will also be participating in the national forum that encourages women to be architects of change. The full list of speakers will be announced next week, but it is said to include quite a few famous mamas — Caroline Kennedy, Madeleine Albright and Annie Leibovitz.

hmm, i'm not quite sure how kate gosselin fits in the company of women like caroline kennedy, madeline albright, and annie liebovitz...nor am i sure how she is an "architect of change." the conference sounds fascinating, though.
and seeing kelly preston on the panels makes me tear up. i cannot imagine.
1an architect of change? Kate Gosselin? what on earth has she changed?
2CG... she changed our perceptions on hair: perhaps the mullet isn't the worst haircut ever --- that dead possum on her head is !
3Ah I see. Maybe her lecture will be on how to change a marriage for the worst, or how to change from a simple woman to a money grubbing hose beast?
4Sample topics include:
5"whoring out your children for money: the right way to do it"
"preteding you hate the paps, but making sure they always know where you are"
"nagging: the lost art"
"Where to air your dirty laundry: tips and tricks for looking sorrowful on the cover of People magazine."
LOL runningesq.
I too am having a hard time seeing how Kate G. is an architect of change.
I love that Kelly Preston is going to be there and I do hope she is healing well after the loss of her son. I also think it's cute that she'll be there - I can't stop thinking about her and Arnold in the movie Twins LOL
6what the...?
7no offense, but how does experiencing the death of a child qualify kelly to speak on grief? grief is an ongoing process and it's only been a few months since jett died.. the anniversary of the death, holidays w/o the loved one, other family members moving on and enjoying life again; those are some of the milestones in grief.
celebrities don't experience more emotion JUST because they are celebrities. they aren't experts on a topic simply because they experience it.
caroline kennedy. now that is a woman who can speak to grief and resilience. kelly would more appropriately speak on experiencing loss and acceptance.
8I am happy for Kate!! It is going to be an interesting conference for all who participate. I am interested in what everyone has to say and then I can decide to take it or leave it. I can't say who is an expert and who isn't on what subject. People can only tell what they have experienced or repeat what is learned from a book. How they have applied that knowledge to their life. If it was about experts I am sure they would have invited experts on the topic at hand. It is about women who have been empowered to overcome adversity in their lives.
9I think this will be great for Kate. I am excited to hear about this. Regarding "architect of change" - dont think they mean what she changed in the world... it is a womans confernece, therefore they are discussing the change woman have been through. I think Kate Gosslin is a woman that has gone through more stages of change in her life in the last 5 years then most women, both in life, marriage, love, children, careers, success, image, etc. I think this will be a very empowering experiance for her expecially during this time in her life when she needs empowerment and encouragement.
10Kate Gosselin was given an ultimatem basically ON TAPE, Jon said he wanted off the show. The season followed with them on the show and they obviously had problems and divorced... He gets divorced from her and still has to share the house AND be on camera (I'm pretty sure) since the show is coming back in August. She can show mothers how NOT to act. She pushed Jon to have one more. It is all her. She pushed him to this whether she'll ever admit that or not.
11If Kate was raising her kids on welfare, you all would be b*tching about that too. So what? She supports her kids w/the show. They seem to have a pretty damn good life if you ask me. She can't win.
12So much for Kate Gosselin keeping her mouth shut, as she said she was going to do, while her TLC show is on a break. She really will do ANYTHING for attention/publicity, even at the expense of her kids and publicy airing details of her broken marriage. Jon is way better off without her! No wonder he's cheated on her.
13Architect of change? Yeah right, how to change your children's lives forever by pimping them out. Lilsugar, please stop being a sheeple. Wake up!
14I realize when Sugar staff like someone, their obssession shines through. Lil with Kate Gosselin, and Pop with Nicole b*tchy
15You have got to be kidding! Kate Gosslin should is not an amazing women deserving of recognition at such an amazing conference. I am so tired of her airing her marriage problems in front of America and getting paid for it.
16STAY HOME KATE!
