Well as a black woman , i think my parents for beating the sh*t out of me until i was 16. It worked. Went to school, got straight A's didn't get pregnant, didn't catch any std's. I'm still alive.
1My husband and I were raised in different ways but turned out very similar, so he is being nice and letting me discipline the way that I want to. He had no curfew, a TV in his room, and his dad let him look at his Playboy magazines
I'm still not sure how he turned out so
well. You would be so surprised!
2I was one of three children in a time where it was entirely socially acceptable to swat your kids or scream at them when they misbehaved. Not that my parents were cruel or terrible, it was just the norm in their time. Unfortunitely it created a generation of people who learned to do what they're told or to obey who ever's loudest. I believe very strongly in calm parenting and negotiation. I believe very strongly in open and frank discussion with my child and try hard to listen to and take into account her thoughts and feelings. That's not to say she rules the house, not at all. Instead she's learned that adults and children have differant roles and expectations in life and she behaves accordingly. She's also though learned how to speak her mind calmly and explain her own needs and desires and to advocate for them when it's appropriate.
