Wanna-be-parents who have limited sex on schedule to improve their chances of conception might want to toss their thermometers and hop into bed! New research shows that couples engaging in daily sex prior to ovulation may have increased chances of seeing two pink lines on the pregnancy stick. One report said:
Reported Tuesday at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) meeting in Amsterdam, the study involved 118 men suffering from "higher-than-normal" genetic damage to the sperm. The study led by Australia's David Greening of IVF Sydney in Wollongong found that after a week of daily sex, genetically damaged sperm dropped by an average of 26% among the men.
The sperm's shortened exposure to oxygen could have also factored into the results.

ohmy gosh that picture looks gross
1thank you captain obvious!
2Why would you toss the thermometer? You still need to know when you're ovulating. Granted, the thermometer will only tell you once you DID ovulate, but tracking your symptoms is still a damn good idea.
It's not actually "Captain Obvious" though, considering previously doctors advised not to have daily sex, which supposedly depleted the "good" sperm.
3My understanding of the study is not so much that more sex=more babies, but that having daily sex prior to ovulation is important for clearing out the old, damaged sperm and making way for healthy, viable new ones that will be more likely to hit their target.
What they don't mention is what they mean by sex. If the case is to be made for more frequent ejaculations, no recipient is required. So your daddy-to-be can just "clean out" his system while you get some sleep, eat pizza, go shoe shopping, etc.
Has nothing to do with hormonal activity on either party's side, has everything to do with fresh sperm. At the time of ovulation, you should be, according to the journals I've read, be having intercourse every other day. Sperm can live up to 3-days in a woman's body. But daily intercourse during ovulation can lead to lowered (not reduced quality) sperm counts. So the best formula? Healthy sperm that is available WHENEVER you ovulate. Ladies, mark your calendars!
4our RE always told us to have sex every other day before, during and after ovulation just to make sure. it's been over 2 years with no luck so we're trying this method this month!
