Many pregnant women are under the false pretense that once the baby exits the womb and enters the world, their tummy will snap back into place just as it was before the seed was planted. Unfortunately, the body doesn't exactly work that way. Many women leave the hospital smiling with a newborn, but frowning inside at the state of their postpartum flabby figure.
Unlike the outlaw type "bandit," the Belly Bandit comes to mama's rescue and holds her up with a belt instead of a gun. Three days after giving birth to my son, I slapped my black-and-leopard print reversible couture band ($56) around my thickened midsection and prayed the gizmo would work its magic. Upon seeing me, my mom exclaimed, "Will that work one me even if I didn't just have a baby?" Excited by my new and improved figure, I wore it religiously for the suggested six week minimum every night and day only taking it off for showers. There were times I wanted to rip it off to allow my body to breathe, but I held fast and stuck with the program and am glad I did.
I don't know if I can give all the credit to the Belly Bandit for losing my baby weight faster than the last time around, but I know I'd never brave postpartum life again without one!

Is the Belly Bandit comfortable? It looks like the same girdle my mom bought me to wear after having twins. I felt as though it was too tight when I sat down and too loose when standing up. Plus it was very stiff and didn't move well with your body while trying to take care of kids.
Is this one different?
1I just bought this for my soon to be postpartum bod, believe it or not after reading a post from MONTHS ago about what to pack in your hospital bag....something else I just did!!!! Due in 3 weeks!
2good idea. i think your muscles probably "remember" better with a little help. to late for me, my youngest is 8.
3sensistar,
4This band is actually pretty comfortable and actually molds to the body. The couture does a better job than the plain belt because it's softer and a little more flexible. I had no trouble moving around and chasing after my two-year-old!
it's awaiting my return from the hospital. due on the 28th... i doubt that i'll last that long!
5I need to buy this for after I deliver. Who knows what will happen to my body after the third...
6i had baught 2 different sizes when i was around 5 months pregs for after the baby came along. i didnt know what size i would be. let me tell you this thing is sooo uncomfortable and you can def see it under your clothes. it is very baggy on the top and fits right where it is supposed to. if you plan on getting one get the size you were before you were pregs. my baby is 3 months old now and i lost all my baby weight ( and then some) with out this band. maybe it would of been good for sleeping in but for running around and doing my every day activities the band just looked to weird under my clothes =/
7my belly also went right back where it was before i got pregs. ( with out the band!!!)
tooo bad i was hoping it would of worked, since i had a c section and everyone told me the band the hospital gives you is super uncomfy.....that was one of the major reason i had baught them.
LOL while i was pregs i would rave about how wonderful this band was going to be for after i had the baby.....
OK, you convinced me. I am going to try this after this next baby comes along. I wonder how soon you can use it after a c-section? Did it look like it would hit the incision at all?
8They say it's actually good for c-sections but I can't tell you from personal experience. They also recommend using it as soon as you can muster. I waited until 3 days postpartum because the size I had at the hospital was not right - I had to get another one when I got out.
9My son is two weeks old and I've been wearing my Belly Bandit since he was about 4 days old (emergency c-section kept me from putting it on until then). I actually need to go get a smaller size now because my stomach has gotten much smaller these last two weeks. The Belly Bandit allows so much support and helps me feel like I am not "hanging out there." I just wished I had one of these for my first pregnancy!
10I just ordered mine today! (before i read the article) the lady at the store measured me and I'm in the medium range...but i had a 26 inch waist before pregnancy which 'should' put me in the small. I bought the small with the hopes it will fit...
11I'm hoping i don't have to send someone to get me the medium...esp since I'm at the lower end of the medium spectrum and don't expect to need the med for that long, another reason why I'm going to try to squeeze into the small...
I'm 37.5 weeks...what do you think?
AnonyCla- I just gave birth 2 weeks ago and I brought the Belly Bandit to the hospital with me. There was no way I was spending money on 2 different sizes, so I just got the small. It didn't really close the day after I gave birth, but I was able to just barely get it closed by the time I left the hospital (a day later). It was pretty uncomfortable though so I haven't been wearing it non-stop, but my point is it fit me pretty quickly after so I didn't have to buy 2 sizes.
12I am due in 5 weeks and definitely will be getting one of those.
13thanks so much katedavis!
14Also, I thought it was better to have one that fit from the beginning because you can always make it smaller but you can't extend the velcro to make it bigger. So I needed the Medium to start and just kept cinching it tighter and tighter as I shrunk. Hope that helps!
15I used the Belly Bandit after my third was born. I had to watch the video to figure out I wearing it the wrong way at first but after that it fit me perfectly. I went down a size in two weeks and lost so much more than I did on my first AND SECOND babies. My friends tried other versions and no one had the same experience or outcome as I did. I tried the hospital bands with my two first pregnancies they don’t work, trust me the hospitals don’t give away anything for free (not even 2 tylenols) you will see it on your bill believe me, I paid about $40 something dollars for this band that didn’t work. The Belly Bandit was truly was a miracle worker on my third pregnancy. I wouldn’t recommend anything else.
