A friend of mine has been raving about the assortment of homemade baby hats at a tiny flower and card boutique called Willow and Bloom in Seattle, WA. I was bummed to find the selection isn't available for sale online — although you can order special one-of-a-kind gift baskets for new mommies — but, I was inspired by the designs on the company's website. One hat is shaped like a little Viking helmet and another is a simple cupcake design with hand-sewn "sprinkle" beads. Both have me wishing I knew how to handle a round knitting needle. Do you ever make or knit clothes or accessories for your children?

I make them for everyone I know who has a baby! Baby things are really fun and quick to make! The cupcake hats are actually super easy. I have a pattern for a little girl's Viking hat with yellow yarn braids!
1no, lol. after being traumatized by a mother who thought she knew how to make children's clothes; i leave that to the professionals. i have a vivid memory of being in 4th grade and wearing a stripped red/white/blue dress that was sewn in a gather around a white neck band and fell out in a HUGE tent style to just above my knees. as i walked onto the playground at lunch another girl said "look, a pregnant 4th grader" and went back to eating her lunch
many other
such memorable outfits.
2Not clothes, but my mother and sisters crochet baby blankets for every family/close friend when they have a baby. They are super super soft and pretty and everyone gushes over them.
3I make them for other people's children and probably will for my own. I love little handmade baby items.
4My Mum god rest her soul did a fantastic job of teaching me how to crochet and knit. I have recently began knitting my 2.5yr old som winter clothes as when Mum passed away she left behind a huge amt of wool and other crafty things. She would get a great kick out of seeing me knit for the grandchild she desperately wanted me to have but she will never see in this life. Thanks mum for passing to me a great tradition. My Daughter thinks it's great that I am knitting her some special clothes. Her living Nanna is a seamstress so she receives lots of handmade and embroidered clothes, which is great as my littlie is petite and it is hard to find clothes of appropriate length for the size of her waist. Making homemade items is not just an old ladies pastime but a great way to bring a family together.
5Cheers
