We met this season's lovable Bachelor, Jason Mesnick, last year on The Bachelorette and quickly learned the Seattle divorced dad is raising his son Ty all by his lonesome. Jason's devotion to Ty was central to almost every conversation he had on the show so it comes as no surprise that the lil guy will play a role (and make appearances) during his father's quest for a wife.
While I understand the appeal of Jason's sporty and sweet dad persona, I was shocked to learn how many of the female contestants on the show have young children at home. The fact that Jason is open to finding a family for Ty and that producers are willing to cast mothers is applaud-worthy, but is the chance at love worth leaving your child?

i don't have kids so i find it hard to judge this particular topic...i guess it really depends on how long you will be gone and how old your child is and who will be taking care of them while you're gone...but what i am happy to see is that next week they'll bring one little girl to meet up with her mom on one of the dates...it's her birthday, so i find that really sweet. at least for jason, ty is staying with him during the taping of the show, so the network has been accomodating that way.
1the only people i understand leaving are those that do it for health reasons...ie, the biggest loser. but shows like the bachelor, no way!
2No.
3I'm sure my opinion is helped along by the fact that I don't like her, but one of the women on the show left her 14 month old baby for this. I think if you end up being a finalist, it's longer than a few weeks of being away - more like 6+ - and I just can't grasp how anyone can say that they're totally devoted to being a single mother and then leave a child that young potentially for that long. I don't care who you're leaving the baby with - that's far too young to be gone!
4I believe there's something inheritantly wrong with you if you want to go on a reality show in the first place. It's a very attention grabbing thing to do, isn't it? Is any of it in the "best interest" of your child? "Star" or contestant? Would you want to watch later (or buy this season on DVD) and see you Dad making out with a bunch of women in order to find the perfect one? Or watch your Mom compete to be with a man? To me it's just a vicious cycle of the wrong message all the way around.
5no way.
To be on a tv show? thats pathetic.
6Never, it's a reality show. That's not important enough to leave anything, let alone your children.
7Stephanie, the widowed single mother, is from my home town, went to my high school.
8She was actually contacted by producers to be on the show.
I'm sure its difficult to be away from her daughter right now, and for the rest of the mothers as well. I'm sure she took a lot of time to think about this decision made the best choice for her and her daughter.
I don't see it much different as poeple who leave their children with grandparents for a few weeks during the summer, or if they have to travel for work, or send them to 2-3 weeks of summer camp.
I was happy to see in the previews that on their solo date her little girl is brought out.
the boy is with his mother now, that seems fine. i don't know anything about this guy, didn't see the the show he was on. but i've seen the first episode of this season and i saw the first half of the second show. he said the boy was going to spend a couple of weeks with his mom. is the mom a weirdo or anything? did he say why they got divorced? i thought he was a widower until he said where the boy was going.
i wouldn't be able to leave my children for this, but maybe these people feel desperate to find a partner. i don't think i would get remarried, or even date if my husband died. i wouldn't feel like i had the time to take away from them and i wouldn't trust anyone around them.
9I do watch a few reality type shows, nothing like this crap, no bachelor or survivor, mostly top model, any singing contest type thing, etc, and there is almost ALWAYS one or two women who left their infants/young children to be on a show. And, alot of these shows are weeks and weeks long, 8-10+ . There's just no way I could do it. I went to the hospital for emergency surgery when my daughter was 2 months old, for a week, and I cried the first few days, so no, id never do it.
10Maybe for something like Biggest Loser. Definitely not for a show like this. (Especially since it sounds like nobody ever really gets married - it doesn't seem like there is a good chance of improving your life at all.) I am more appalled that he would allow his son to be seen on the show.
