He was there about 95% of the time, but did leave once or twice to feed the cat, check on the house, and shower. But he slept at the hospital, ate with me, and watched DVDs with me most of the time (I was there 2 1/2 days).

well I don't know yet, but I'm sure he'll want to stay with me, he would if they would have let him when I had surgery, however, we have two dogs at home and we want to keep them as close to their routine as possible when the baby comes. So I guess it depends on the kind of pet sitter we can get. I'll let you know come June!

I'm from Canada, they don't let husbands stay. He was kicked out at around 10 pm with my first. With my second, he had to be at home with our son. Luckily my second was born in the afternoon when my son was at daycare and my husband was able to pick him up, feed him then bring him to the hospital for a visit. I was out the next day.

We didnt have any other children, so he stayed with me the entire time. I couldnt get up and walk around due to the labor and blood loss and stuff, so he had to do most of it at first. Even trips to the bathroom were 25 minute events, lol. I was there 3 days. He only left to run to walmart and buy me 2 packages of fig newtons, one reg one straw, which i devoured that night after going 24 hours without food!

I'm like Aphrosette, my hubby was kicked out after 10 pm. We could have had a private room so he could stay the night but I really didn't want to shell out the extra $150 for only 2 nights. I was surprised that I could use my cell in my room though, so we kept in touch a lot that way when he wasn't there.

Of course he left. I sent in him out for sushi.

best idea ever...my mom stayed with me at night 9pm-9am, hubby came at 9 am. Worked great with both of our babies. He came in each morning so excited, couldn't wait to see me and the baby. mom went home and slept all day. That way i was the only person exhausted from being up all day and night. so when we came home from the hospital hubby was ready for the night shift not cranky and tired from sleeping on a cot with nurses coming in all night. Also, note to future mommies...tell your babies nurses you will call them after each feeding, not to come to your room every two hours to check. the nurses quickly figured out i was on top of it they knew i would call and tell them when and how much the baby ate and they didn't wake me up at night, yeah.

My husband stayed the whole time. This is the first time that I thought about what he did...did he shower? I have no idea. I was in labor for 40 hours and then had a c-section so I stayed about 4 days total and he stayed the whole time.

My parents went out for food for us and that was that...

I'd go nuts if he was there around the clock. Plus, the hospital doesn't provide food for him and I wouldn't make anyone eat in the cafeteria three meals a day for four days.

He's there a lot but nowhere near the whole time.

We only live a few blocks from the hospital so my poor hubby doesn't have any excuse to leave me there for long.... not that he'd want to anyway

We don't have kids but once my husband asked me, "If I were on a business trip when you went into labor, you wouldn't expect me come home would you?" So I'm not expecting too much from him when the time comes, lol.

btw, he's usually very considerate otherwise it wouldn't be so funny!

Baluk, that is the first thing I've heard that makes me reconsider moving to Canada. I can't imagine husbands not being allowed to stay if they don't want to!

When my husband was born the doctors told me FIL he could go home, and he DID - because wrestling was on! Says a lot about him, eh? I've told my husband, the only person who gets to tell him he can go home is ME! And I probably won't, unless I was there for a long time being monitored. As long as I'm in active labor, I want him in the building. Running errands is one thing, but going home to watch TV - nuh uh.

with #2 and 3 he was there when he could be, but there were other children. plus, we moved the day #2 was born so he was busy, lol. i timed that one perfectly (tee-hee).

he was there for the birth for all three. he was there alot for the 1st child..of course that was the blizzard of 99 in IN that year. so he couldn't really go anywhere anyways. second child, i sent him home severl hours after giving birth. i wanted to sleep. and so did he. 3rd child, i gave birth wed. nite, he went to work thurs and friday, came up to the hospital after work. no reason for him to be there all the time. my mom was home with the other kids. it would of drove me nuts anyways having him around me 24/7 anyhow

Baluk, what part of Canada are you from? I'm in SK, and they let my boyfriend stay with me the entire time, thank goodness! I had a c-section as well, so I was there for a day or so extra.

My husband was with me all the time, also in the c-section.

With Number 1, he stayed. With number 2, I imagine he will be heading home to take care of the dog- but I could be wrong on that. Guess we'll find out in 9 weeks.

I sent my husband home to sleep, even though we had a private room. I figured with how tired I was likely to be, it didn't really make sense for both of us to be woken up throughout the night for feedings, and it would be a huge help once we got home to have one of us who was well-rested and able to get things together. He slept at home and worked on getting the house in order, getting groceries and other supplies I wasn't expecting to need ready.

My husband stayed until they practically threw him out...LOL
Actually all the nurses were really sweet and very accomodating to the both of us.

I went home a little less than 48 hrs after I gave birth and the hospital was about 15 minutes from my house . The only reason he left was to feed the dog and let him out. The rest of the time was spent with our baby, visiting with family and friends, and watching DVD's.The staff was even nice enough to bring extra meals for him when they brought mine so we could eat together.

With the first two the ex husband came and went throughtout the labor process and didn't really help out much at all, I can't even figure out why he was even there thinking back on it? With the third, my husband was there the first day and a half without leaving my side but had to go home after the second night to take care of our other children. He was right back the next morning with the kids.

I had 56 hours of labor ending in c-section. My husband ran my mom back and forth from our house once I think, and he ran out for food a couple of times when things were moving slowly, but he slept in the room and hung with me other than that while I was in labor. I had to stay three extra days after the baby was born, and he did sleep at home one of those nights (Mom stayed with me) and went to work one of those days (again, Mom stayed with me and the baby), which I completely didn't mind. I was there for almost a WEEK after all, and he was working on his MBA in addition to working his regular job - not many people can take a week off of both.
