I would in my present situation..with only one to watch, shes never out of my sight and i dont sleep when she's awake. But i dont think i would if i had 8 kids.. lol. Just too much chaos going on

I'd prefer a house with a pool. It'd just have to be properly fenced.

Our previous daycare was in a home with a pool and she had that thing secured like nothing I've ever seen. I felt totally comfortable with that. Half the daycare centers have pools here, too.

I grew up wihtout a pool, so of course I would jump to buy one. However, DH did have a pool and saw how much constant work it was/is and has said "never ever." We've compromised that we'd accept a place with an HOA pool.

We often had pools growing up, even the crap areas in cali usually have them..and I took care of them most of the time. If you have a good filter, with a side hinge that takes diatomaceous earth its really, really easy. I started doing it on my own around 13, lol. You dont really have to mess with the chemicals much as long as you vaccuum/clean the filter often. Its just a pain when you do it really lazily and constantly have to fix the ph, then fix the chlorine, etc..

Yeah our pools weren't all that much work growing up either. A couple times a week checking things out and cleaning the filter.

i would love a pool! i would do as greggie said and properly gate it so i would not have to worry about it every time we were in the backyard...although i would never want to leave my daughter alone in the backyard, ever...

We had a pool put in last summer and it is worth its weight in gold and about 30 min maintenance each week.

Yes. Having a pool is great in your backyard. It cuts out travel time when you want to take a quick dip in the pool.

It's like people who love a steam room. It gets to the point to where they would rather built one in their home than go to the gym, or wherever, just to sit in a steam room for a short while.

we did. one day we came home and caught the neighborhood kids in it. they were only 11 or so. and we had a privacy fence surrounding the back yard with a locking gate. they had jumped the fence. we tore it down the next year. it was too much of a liability.

We did buy a home with a pool. It was a promise we'd made to our children when we moved them 2,500 miles away from friends and family. It is alot of upkeep, but depending on how much you use it, it's worth it. It's just up to each family.

i would love a house with a pool, but the husband feels differently. he thinks the expense isn't worth it.

i can see the goslings getting one because it's probably a major event for them to go anywhere, it would just be easier to have something like a pool at home.

i think safety experts recommend 3 barriers between the children and the pool, like 1) a fence with a bell, 2) an alarm in the pool that reacts to something entering the pool and 3) alarm on all doors that access the pool area. of course you have to have supervision of all children and be aware of where they are at all times.

Never thought I'd want one...but when we bought the house we're in it had an in-ground pool. The biggest plus is that your kids & their friends all end up @ your house so you know them all (AND their parents!), -- and as they grow, you will ALWAYS know where YOUR kids are!!!! ('Course you'll always have a house-full, but it sure is fun!)

No. I wouldn't want to take care of it, we'd never use it, and my bulldogs don't float.

We had one installed years ago and took all the precautions to make sure that the yard, especially around the pool area, are heavily gated.We've also got some specific pool rules at my house and they are that under no circumstances are my 7 yr old daughter and her friends allowed to be inside the gate or to do any swimming unless there is adult supervision there with them.No exceptions....

1955, That was always how our house was, and it was GREAT! I was always the oldest kid, and there were HOARDES of kids over constantly. Probably 20 (between the 4 of us kids and our friends) kids around the pool having a blast every day.

We had bbq's and pool parites every week. My parents had all of their friends and their kids over. I absolutely cannot think of happier times as a child then when we had a pool. My parents both worked, so I was in charge of the clean up and house chores, so it wasnt a burden on my parents.

We had a 6 foot fence with the slats of metal through it, at one house. We also had 5 very large dogs, including 2 pitbulls, a border collie mix, and a great pyrenees that stood over 6'2 on his hind legs. We really didnt have to deal with people sneaking into the backyard. Shortly after we moved in, we were at the other house packing the remaining things and a few kids thought they'd jump the fence. Well, the pyr broke a window trying to get into the back yard. After that, our house was known throughout the neighborhood as somewhere not to screw around at, lol.

I think people make too much of a big deal over pool care. Its easier then mowing the lawn, and most everyone has one of those...

This is a novel, but seriously, i LOVED every house we had with a pool, and if we find one decently priced, I would definitely buy it.

My parents got an aboveground pool when I was 17 or so and I love having it I had my graduation party as a pool party!

I would definitely have a pool - it's not too much work for my parents as long as you do maintain it. You just have to make sure there are proper precautions to keep others out.

I would love a pool but we have more winter than we do summer, so it probably wouldn't be worth it to have an outdoor pool.

And when you say the "Gosselins purchased a beautiful new home," do you mean "purchased" or it was given to them as yet another gift? I cannot watch John and Kate Plus Eight anymore because of Kate's inability to turn down free stuff. She's morphed Star Jones during her wedding bonanza.

We have a pool now and are currently trying to get PG - so of course I had to say YES!! We love having it - and I have to agree with MissSushi that it truly is not that much maintenance as long as you keep up with it.

We had an in ground pool at the South Carolina home. It was actually easier to keep the toddlers/kids safe then the dogs.

So I would warn people with animals.. throw the dogs in one day and teach them how to get out by way of the stairs. Otherwise they may stay at the deep end panicking until they drown.

But with all of the nets/fences/splash alarms.. gates, home alarms that alert you to a door opening...there are many options to make a pool safe.

And we took care of ours ourselves. It was fun and didn't require a degree. You just buy a water testing kit and the chemicals and follow the directions.

I would LOVE to have a pool but I love my kids more and would worry too much about them getting in when I wasn't looking. It happens - even with gates, locks and alarms.
