What you eat prenatally, can pay off in your lil one's health even after she leaves the womb. Recent research suggests that moms-to-be who eat apples during pregnancy, have children with lower rates of asthma. Those who consumed more than four apples a week had children who were 37 percent less likely to have asthma.
Studies also found a specific food would reduce rates of eczema in babies too. To find out what it is, just read more.
Mothers who consume fish (more than once a week) during pregnancy may lower their child's risk of developing eczema. Too much of a good thing can be bad though, especially in the case of fish. Consuming high amounts of fish can boost mercury levels in a developing fetus so don't overdo it.
Best practice is to focus on eating a diet wide in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and proteins — but now you may want to make sure that it includes a few apples and pieces of fish.

i ate apples in and with my salad every day for lunch while i was pregnant (unless i was splurging on my wendy's spicy chicken sandwich). but, each time our lil guy has wound up w/a really bad cold... he's wound up w/a wheezy cough (twice and he's 14 mos) and this time he got a nebulizer thingie w/the albuterol, it's possible he will wind up asthmatic as he grows.... who knows... i think it's best to eat well... and an apple a day contributes to that... but to thing you'll fend off asthma w/an apple a day while pregnant... i dunno... i dont think you can bank on that.
1Nothing says it'll completely eliminate all asthma, just that it helps reduce the risk.
2I do eat an apple a day! I also have a cup of decaf hot green tea every day.
3aaaaaaaaaaah! i am so sick of reading about pregnancy and fish! you just can't win either way it seems! one week i think i should be eating as much low mercury fish as possible and the next i think i should be swearing it off.
4oh well, at least apples seem less controversial!
I can't eat fish anyway. It's not just that I don't like it, my body simply will not tolerate it.
5I'll have to ask my husband, a pulmonologist, about the validity of this study and what he knows. It's intriguing, but I'm not a big fan of apples and was confused and didn't eat much fish during my pregnancy. Oh well!
6I think this research is a bunch of crap. How can you do this research...I mean really!

8I loove fish, but not the fish that they encourage for preganncy. I love sushi and albacore tuna, and such.
9Interesting. I am actually having a hard time restricting the amount of canned tuna I eat. I am 14 weeks pregnant and would eat a can of tuna for every meal if I could. Any mom who eats the fish we are "allowed" to eat often and apples daily probably already lives a very healthy lifestyle. I wonder how they narrowed it down to these two items.
