When they're still in the bucket seat I might take an extra lap during the day to get them to sleep before shopping, but not after and never for bedtime. Getting in and out of the carseat always woke up them anyway.

I do it when I know I need to be somewhere and a nap is in the middle of when I should be driving. I try to schedule the naps for when I am going to be driving. I don't do it for bedtime b/c my daughter wakes up if we bring her in the house....

I do my best to schedule driving when she's not napping since she'd nap better and longer at home.

i REALLY avoid the car around naptime (unless we're going on a road trip) and do all i can to keep them awake. i NEED those 2 hours to myself at home, when they are their beds. it's important to be consistent when it comes to sleep for your kids and relying on a car to get them to fall asleep is a bad idea.

I have never put my son in the car to make him fall asleep, but he does take a nice nap every time we go for a ride. It can be great, but sometimes it throws off his schedule. We actually try to plan our trips around nap time when we can.

I might only take the long way home when I know that naptime is coming soon or overdue. When she was colicky I wanted so bad to put her in the car and drive around but knew that would be a stupid idea and never did.

more times than i can count! my first daughter has severe autism, and had no ability to self regulate. the car was the only way she would fall asleep for about 2 years. it also calmed her down and stopped her screaming/crying, which got really hard to deal with once she was old enough to really make some noise (about age 4). but that was a special case. then we started using melatonin and she couldn't fall asleep w/o it until about a year ago, she's 10 now.

I'd take a extra lap or take the long way home. When she was a newborn we put her in the car once to try and get her to sleep but go figure she wouldn't sleep that one time.

I always, always, always schedule things for first thing in the morning or after 2pm, after her afternoon nap. My kid goes from smiling, giggly, cooperative, and talkative to demonic spawn intent on destroying all humanity without her afternoon nap. Missing her nap is not even an option, it doesnt exist. She's like her father, and I will always make sure she gets her sleep. She gets up from her nap a ray of sunshine ready to tackle life lol.

That being said, if im out already and shes looking droopy, I will most definitely go the long way or to a store a bit farther away. Every second of sleep I can get into her is essential, lol.

I forgot to add, I was never interested in putting her in the car just to get her to sleep. Even in the beggining, utterly sleep deprived becuase she was a very hungry baby and a tough sleeper, I didnt want to get into the habit of doing it. If im even remotely tired inside of a moving vehicle, my head starts slamming. Its fairly dangerous. Long car trips (over 8 hours) are hell on earth for me.
