As a mom, I take tucking my two safe and healthy kids into bed for granted. In the time it takes for us to go to work, to school, to the playground and run errands, laugh, eat, and make memories, 25,000 children around the world die of preventable causes. It's unfathomable — the pain their mothers endure and that this is happening in 2009. That's why I believe in zero. Join Caryl M. Stern, president and CEO of US Fund for UNICEF and mother of three in the movement to make that number zero. To find out how you can get involved, read more.
Getting involved is easy. Advocate on behalf of the children by signing a Presidential Initiative to make child survival policy a priority, donate whatever you can, or recruit your family members and friends to get involved. Teach your children that they can make a difference.

i think they should be educating these women on birth control and making options available to them. if you save a child from disease you don't save them from starvation or a life of extreme poverty. these countries cannot support their growing populations. and while men can be educated as well, the fact is that women carry the overwhelming majority of the responsibilities there.
1I agree, lickety... I actually clicked on here to make a point about that as well. They need to stop reproducing into situations like these, especially in the extreme amounts they do. They spend money on silly things like coffee colored condoms instead of more reliable and informative methods of birth control.
2I wonder why all the high profile Holywood stars want to help all the kids in other countries when there are starving children here? What's wrong with helping the homeless and hungry in Detroit, Atlanta, D.C.,.
3Do they "BELEIVE" that everything here is good and we need to look globally for a cause??
Look past your neighborhood, down the street and tell me you can't find somone in need. There is an old saying that says charity starts at home. It doesn't mean your house necessarilly, but people HERE need help!
Who are we to say that we can fix anyone else's problems when we are in the socioeconomic mess we're in??
Get off your horse and help your neighbor and thier kids damnit!!!
I do not mean to sound rude or anything like that, but where does UNICEF get their numbers? 25,000 a day is 750,000 a month. It seems kind of unbelievable.
4Does the 25000 include the approximately 3500 that are murdered in the US by abortion?
