My sister and I went to the mall after she had her son and she had to nurse him. We don't have those fancy family quiet rooms that most malls have now so she just sat on a bench and nursed him. She did cover herself but there was this woman who worked in a fancy jewelry store who was glaring at us, and eventually had the nerve to come out of the store to tell us we are bad for business can you please leave? Well in the hospital they tell you about your rights if you decide to nurse. My sister went on a rant about suing and rights and and blah! blah! She apologized and left us alone. I know that after she had her daughter and I had mine we would still nurse at that bench just to aggravate the lady.
1Good for you and your sister standing up for your rights bluepuppybites! I'm preganant with my first and I plan to breastfeed him. It's so strange to me that people have a problem with mothers nursing in public - it is one of the most natural and beautiful things in the world!
2You can nurse while having AN alcoholic drink. You don't have to wait two hours. Or you can nurse while drinking it, actually. So #1 is misleading.
bluebaby, I carry around cards with the California law protecting breastfeeding in public.
Luckily people around here don't ten to have hang-ups about it, though.
3I didn't know that Greggie.
I'll definitely research all my rights when I get pregnant. I plan to breastfeed and I plan to do it when my baby needs/wants to be fed and I'm not doing it in a dirty nasty bathroom!!
4I guess I should add before I get jumped all over:
5I will be respectful and not just pop my boob out. I'll cover up the best I can and make sure I'm not being blatant with it. I won't shove my breasts in your face! Lol
I dont see a problem with breastfeeding in public but i dont think its right to let your breast be exposed like a lot of women do.
A woman sat across from me on the bus recently and just pulled it out while she tried to attach her son. And i dont think that is appropriate at all. First of all he wasnt crying so she could have waited to get off the bus, and second, she could have covered it. But no, she just left her boob out for a couple of minutes with no coverage.
6I had a friend that was TOTALLY shocked when she got pregnant while breastfeeding- so she ended up with two girls only 15 months apart. The really crazy thing is she is a NURSE- she definitely should have known she could get pregnant.
