The time spent in labor is often looked at as a badge of honor, but no matter how long it took to bring her bundle of joy into the world, some mamas feel entitled to bragging rights. My girlfriend is nearing her due date and has been asking everyone she knows how long their laboring process was; she's gotten answers from 30 minutes to 48 hours. If you're expecting, you'll probably hope yours will be on the shorter side, but for those who have already delivered — how long was your labor?

Around 10 hours and 30 minutes of pushing. I know pretty easy for my first.
11st - 24 hours total but only 7.5 hours of hard labor
22nd - 13.5 hours of hard labor
3rd - around 6 hours
4th - less than 2 hours start to finish - she came so fast!
I had a pretty short and easy labor for my first. I'd say my active, organized labor was about 7-8 hours (with about 20-25 minutes of pushing).
3I went 30 hours with 45 minutes of pushing. They had to use the vacuume to get her out(her poor little head lol). That was after an hour of begging for a c-section lol
4it depends on how you'd count it, but:
i was admitted to the hospital around 10pm and induced around midnight, but my water wasn't broken until 4am.
by 5:30 i asked for the epidural.
at 8 i woke up and was told i could push if i wanted to or wait a bit longer and i opted for waiting.
my doctor came in for a morning checkup and said "oh no, you're having this baby now." i started pushing around 9am and my daughter was born at 9:12.
11 hours? 5 hours? 12 minutes?
5Both times I only really pushed for 30 minutes, since I had the epidural it wasn't bad at all.
6Water broke at 10am but no contractions... contractions started at 2:30pm but really mild so they started pitocin at 4.. started pushing at 9:30 he was born at 9:45.. No epidural so it went pretty quick.
7Has anyone forgone an epidural? Just wondering..
8About 26 hours with twelve of it being hard back labor, and the last three hours being pushing. Ended in emergency c-section.
The other two were c-sections, although I did have a couple hours of labor with my second while we waited for the doctor to come in and scrub since it was about 10 days before my scheduled surgery. It wasn't hard labor, though.
9I did not forgo the epidural but mine didn't work on 3/4 of my body.
10I was in labor for about 19 hours, horrific back labor. I had an epidural but they started it without finishing, he left after putting the needle in to go do someones colon surgery, and it didnt block any of the pain.
11I'd be piiiiiiiiiiiiissed, Miss Sushi. I mean, I understand why they'd have to leave for someone else but they really should've finished yours first. The other surgery could've waited the fifteen minutes it would've taken to get the catheter flowing.
12lol I was livid, but the doctor ignored me completley of course. The anthe felt bad when he came back becuase he knew it was too late. The pain had gone too far and gotten to bad for it to be stopped at that point. My dcotor was horrific and im surprised I survived. They lied about everything afterwards, my screwed up catheter that they woudlnt fix, how much blood I lost, how badly she did my epi without asking, etc.
She is such a horrible doctor and the hospital is such a death trap that people routinely find my personal website (thats about my life and family and such, not that specific incident, it was just obviously included since its a blog) with things like dr hicks cut open newborns head, dr hicks broke newborns arm, etc...
13Mine didn't listen to me when I said the epi wasn't working either, and refused to listen to the anesthesiologist's input on how to fix it. It's ok, I taught her, I went into respiratory arrest.
I also immediately changed my insurance so I'd never have to be in that hospital again, or with those doctors. Like yours, it did not have a good reputation but by the time we knew that I was already pregnant and we can only change our insurance in May.
14Yeah, I was already 6 or so months pregnant by the time I realized she wasnt a good doctor and the hospital was bad. We had just relocated to oklahoma from Florida, and in doing so, lost our insurance. We werent here 2 weeks when I found out I was pregnant. Jobs were slim and I ocudlnt get mine to give me enough hours for insurance, and my husbands job required SIX MONTHS of working with them before they would give you insurance. So, onto state insurance we went, and with it came ONE ob doctor for 40 miles and a small town hospital. She seemed really nice at first, but she didnt do ANY research my entire pregnancy. Did my ultrasound at 16 weeks, so no checking on size, no checking physically for position, no second ultrasound, never checked me for dialation, god I could go on and on. It was my first pregnancy, and i pushed for things but when she came up with reasons and excuses becuase no one backed me up, i just went with things. Never again.
15lol omg, i forgot this, and in fact on my apt at 37 weeks she jokingly told me that she just delivered a girl that week who had gone into labor and they didnt check position until 8 centimeters just to find out she was BREECH! oh god.. talk about terror. I plnaned to make her check my next apt. Unfortunately, I went into labor a week later. When I got to the hospital after my water broke at home, i INSISTED on them checking position becuase of that and they tried the ultrasound but at that point there wasnt enough fluid becuase my water had broken..
16I was in labor for 19 hours start to finish. My water broke at 10:00 pm, they admitted me at 12:00pm the following day, my daughter was born at 5:00pm that evening after 30 minutes of pushing. I was terrified of labor before it happened, but the whole experience was so much better than I thought it was going to be. I did get an epidural. It likely would have been a very different experience without one! I also love my doctor and the hospital where I delivered which I know makes a huge difference.
1712 hours, 44 minutes (including 44 minutes of pushing). My water broke at exactly midnight, and I went right to the hospital.
18Mine was about 5 hours I pushed for like 2 mins. It was wonderful I hope my second which is due in June is that fast! Oh and I totally understand losing insurance. I lost my insurance a month before I was due because my work got sold to a different company. I had to get on state insurance get a new doctor and go to a different hospital. It was horrible, but it all turned out to be a blessing. I loved the hospital, the nurse's were the best ever. My new Dr. is the best ever. And my labor was short.
19I went without the epidural and I don't think the pain was horrific I also got a nubain shot which makes the pain tolerable, but trust me I could still feel them. I thought labor and delivery was a very exciting experience, and wonder what the 2nd time will be like.
2024 for the first child and 28 for the second child. I always thought the second one was supposed to be easier. Turns out that is not always the case.
21first child-10 1/2 hours
22second child-9 1/2 hours
third child-5 1/2 hours-emergency induction due to blood pressure
oh and to answer a question from above ...i didn't have a epidural with any of my kids. didn't like the thought of a needle going in my back. scared me to much at that time. they did give me one dose of whatever painkiller....all it did was make me loopy. i felt everything with all the kids.
23My mom had her hardest time with the second, too. She ended up being half turned a little and the cord was shorter then normal and wrapped around her neck 3 times to boot, lol. She wasnt breathing when she was finally born, but they revived her.
24I felt the same about the needle too. I didnt want ANYONE messing with my spine. But after 12 hours of agonizing back labor, I finally was like okay, bring on the epidural!
257 hrs 6 mins
267 hrs 6 mins
2712 hours with my first only to have the doc come in and say
"okay well your not opening up sooo we'll do a c-section"
With the second one I went straight into the surgery room.
2845 hours, start to finish...but what an awesome experience!
2917 hours with 2 1/2 of pushing. I'm hoping this next time around it won't be as long since I will labor a lot at home (where I will be much more comfortable...or as comfortable as you can get being in labor!)
30I was induced at 7:30pm. I went into active labor from the prostaglandins around 4am. water broke at 6:30am, she was out by 8;05am.
Not bad for a first timer. My midwife thought I'd be in labor through the next evening.
31oh, i had back labor with no epidural. i was vomiting.. that pain is for real.
32I never bothered to calculate it- I was pretty loopy at the time b/c I was on codeine for days before (I had a horrible flu) and then had an epidural (the cervadil overstimulated me once it kicked in and I was having non-stop contractions). But I think I was only in labor for like 3 hours (once the cervadil kicked in) and then about a half hour of pushing (maybe?) and it all ended in a C-section because the cord was wrapped around my son's neck and he was in distress.
3345 hours before I finally had a c-section. My labor kept stopping so they would give me more drugs to start it again, then it would stop again. Turned out my baby's head was bigger than my pelvis. He never could have come out vaginally.
34My 1st and 4th I had completely natural - no epidural or anything. I had epidurals with my 2nd and 3rd though.
35about 12 hours but for the first 4-6 my contractions weren't that painful. i was GOING to forgo the epidural but in the heat of things had to get it~!!~too painful otherwise
36First one was 12 hours of contractions and 90 mins of pushing, no epidural, lots of vomiting!!!
37Second was induced at 7am and started pushing at 7pm and he was born after 15 mins of pushing, no epidural, not as much vomiting as the first time.
4, yes FOUR, days, ending with a c-section. Mild labor for the first day (Sunday from 4 am until about 11 pm). Then serious labor for the last 3 days. Water broke at 4am on the 4th day and ended with a c-section at 8 pm. AND NO EPIDURAL. I wanted to go natural and do a vbac (my first was a c-section because they thought she was too big). It was like a marathon...and I never got to cross the finish line. My dr. says no more labor for me.
38My first and only was 5 hours with only about 25 minutes of pushing and I ended up with a handsome 9lb 7.2oz baby boy.
39My first was 6 hours, second was 5 hours and third was 10 hours with the first 5 being back labor.
407.5 hours of back labor- 15 minutes of pushing. Bradley Birth
41Woke up at 3:30am to pee, couldn't get back to sleep and realized I was having contractions at 4:30am. Went to the hospital at 8am, I was measured 5cm at 9am, started pushing at 1:30, and son was born at 3:40pm. Total: 12 hours. Active labor: 6 hours. Pushing: 2 more hours.
I pushed for 2 hours because my son was born facing up. They're supposed to be facing mom's back. I also did it with no meds, despite back labor, unless you count the local anesthetic for my episiotomy. I used the hot tub instead! It was so relaxing! A large warm water bath is called the midwife's epidural because it's so effective for pain relief. I also had a doula.
