The Christmas crunch doesn't mean you have to skimp on trimming the tree! Whether you cut down your Douglas Fir or buy a Silver Tip off the lot, you and your kids can get busy primping a meaningful tree without ever leaving the house to purchase ornaments. Scavenge the toy boxes, closets and dressers to unearth your family's treasures. From your son's favorite lil jet to your daughter's beloved baby doll to the tykes first pairs of booties, it's a fun activity for all involved. Fasten the items to the tree using bent paperclips or snips of string. To see what my children and me came up with when we tried out the task, check out our slideshow!

Our first Christmas together, my husband wasn't interested in the tree...until he asked if it was okay if he put some of his collector toys on it. A couple of years he and the kids have
competed to see what goes on, but I did get cranky and ask them to limit it...I have a collection of ornaments I love and cherish and, as I told them, I only get to see them two weeks out of
the year: they get to see their toys every day. So, I ask them to pick out a few favourites.
