On occasion, my husband picks me up from work with my son in the backseat wrapped in a blanket and wearing only a diaper. It's usually because the lil rascal stripped off his clothes and then fell asleep. Rather than waking him up, his dad carts him to the car in a cuddly cover then turns the heat on to keep him warm during the ride.
I was at a party with a friend when her husband called and asked her to come out and breastfeed their son in the car. When she asked why he didn't want to bring the baby in, he told her their daughter wasn't wearing pants. She said to head in anyway. The door opened and in walked the three-year-old in a hooded sweater, shirt, shoes, socks and a pair of undies. My friend laughed and exclaimed, "Oh, she really isn't wearing any pants!"
Before I was a mom I thought toting tots around without clothes or shoes was an odd practice, but after having kids I understand that sometimes you opt for the more peaceful option in a pinch. Do you ever take your darlings for a drive without clothes or shoes on?

All the time, she loves to undress herself! I wish she would just learn to love to dress herself too!
1I had to take a friend to work today and it was very early. So instead of waking my daughter up trying to put on a coat, shoes and a hat; I got a huge blanket bundled her up and off we went. Now she is back in bed asleep again. I would do the same again if it meant letting her get her sleep in, but thank goodness her grandma wasn't there to see.. haha.
2I have never taken my daughter out with no clothes or with just a diaper showing. She also always wore shoes or socks.
3Please don't tell me Katie has Suri in NY in the winter time without pants or tights on. That cannot be right. That's probably why Suri is making that face.
4Ridiculous! Suri's probably making that face because she has over a dozen cameras going off in her face. Shes made that face even when properly clothed. Seeing as they are going right from a building to a car then probably the car right into their house its none of our business how Katie wants to dress HER daughter.
5My kids never undressed themselves. Although I guess I can't say the youngest won't since she's only 10 months, but my older two never even tried. I mean, they would around the house to play but it was a rule that they were dressed before we left and it's one rule they never even remotely fought. I also never took them out as babies in just a diaper or a diaper and shirt. I have a thing about my kids' diapers showing.
6That's hilarious. Luckily we don't have that problem... yet.
7yes, and this time of year they wear their pj's in the car to go look at christmas lights. i wouldn't take them into a store or something like that w/o clothes on, but to a friends house, that's no biggie.
8I hope to GOD this isn't some article saying it's okay that Katie Holmes trots Suri around in freezing rainy NYC weather with no coat and in summer clothing. It's not some one time thing--it's a constant practice and she is allowing a TWO year old to dictate her own wardrobe choices and determine her own need for outerwear.
Is that the recommendation of lil sugar? Let your toddler decide whether she should wears shoes and a coat in December? LMAO...
I don't care if she is a celebrity, or a mom. Katie Holmes is a complete freak.
9she sucks
10I am fairly certain that Suri is fully clothed under the blanket. It's her bare feet that made me think of the times my kids or my friend's kids have gone for a car ride without being fully dressed or wearing shoes. This post is not a statement on Katie Holmes.
11I figured she was just shoeless as well. I figure her car that's waiting for her is nice and warm already, she likely doesn't have to wait for the heater to kick in like us regular folk. Who knows if it was more than just a few feet from heated room to heated car.
I'm big on shoes staying on at all times in the car, but that's not because of weather or warm, it's because the boys both inherited my feet. You don't want those things uncovered in small spaces.
12naked more often than not. or with a t-shirt on, but naught else.
it's Hawaii - we're all basically trying to get away with wearing as little clothes as possible any way - even the adults.
13Even if Suri is unclothed under the blanket, we don't know the circumstances. She could have had an accident or something, so they took her out of her clothes.
14I don't have kids but if I did take them out half naked, I would definitely bring clothes with me. What if (in the winter) your car broke down!? etc.
15watever Katie needs to stop being a pushover.
16Daddy is the one who usually forgets to put shoes on our toddler. I have been stuck at the store with no shoes for him. I have also been in a situation where I forgot a change of clothes and he leaked through. I had to take him in only a diaper to Target and buy some emergency clothes. We also transport in pj's from Grandmas house or a late night somewhere. I think those are all normal "mom" things that just happen, though. I am sure Katie Holmes isn't exempt.
17My issue here is that this is not an isolated incident. This didn't happen once, or even a couple of times. This is EVERY DAY!!!!
Suri Cruise is never, ever, EVER dressed appropriately for the weather. When we had two different freezing spells in NYC, Katie was taking her to the park in silk designer dresses with no socks or tights. I have only seen that child in a coat once or twice. The rest of the time they allow her coatless, tightless, no socks and short sleeves dresses. Tom and Katie will be in sweaters, hats, gloves and coats, but they just wrap her in an infant blanket.
But if Suri doesn't want to wear a coat, it's okay? If your two year old didn't want to EVER wear a coat or sweater in the wintertime (in the Northeast!!!), would you honestly say "okay?"
And I'm not talking a quick errand out while still in PJs or going to pick up elder siblings at school without being fully dressed. This is the way they allow this child to go out every.single.day. It's INSANE, but do they get a pass because they are celebrities? It's been at a point where I honestly want to report them to someone.
Katie also has her out as late as 11:00 at night on a regular basis. The poor child obviously hates the flashing cameras in her face and cries and hides her face and looks like she wishes she were at home in bed, but I've seen both Katie and Tom Cruise stand there and allow them to get all their shots--forcing Suri to look---in complete disregard to their own child's fear and discomfort.
They've been in my neighborhood for FAR too long and I admit I can wait for them to go away, but if I were a mom I'd be horrified to follow or even excuse these two loon's parenting.
18I can't recall a bunch of times I've seen Suri underdressed. I'm actually always admiring her coats and wishing I could find a (much) cheaper version for my daughter when she gets a little older.
The late thing doesn't bother me either. She's usually looking pretty happy when I see pictures.
19It kills me how people expect kids to be complete drones who have no opinions or independence streaks. They can take a still frame and spin a 20 hour tale from it. Either way, its not your life, not your child, and if she was photographed as often as you say in "clear neglect" the authorities would have stepped up by now. if you know anyone whose even been falsely acused of neglect, cps goes absolutely ape to the point of analyzing your fridge content and checking your bath tub to make sure theres no dust in the corners. I think youre spending WAY too much time and energy freaking out over katie holmes, as if shes the only parent involved anyway.
She wears coats, leggings, and dresses, and sometimes pants, and theres nothing wrong with that. I wore basically the SAME thing today, and it was 15 degrees with a wind chill in the negatives. It was fine, and most of these shots are in transit to a building or car anyway.
that being said, as far as the article, my daughter strips her shoes and socks off the MINUTE shes in a position where she can reach them, and has been for months. She learned around 6 months old to grab the end of her sock, hook her leg around the other, and use it to drag the sock off, crowbar fashion. Shes barely a year now, and im sure when shes able she will be taking the rest of her clothes off. Its how I was, and its how she is.
