No, my kids' names are not in the top 10. I tried pretty hard to avoid that with the girls. A really popular name in my daughter's preschool is Elle or Ellie. I hear a lot of Ava's around here, too.
1Oh wow Jessica is not on the list, maybe this means that one day my name will be "unique"
.
2I'm surprised Riley and/or Mackenzie aren't on the list. Sorry to anyone this applies to, but those names make me cringe (Madison kinda does too).
3Ugh. Olivia is #5. It took us FOREVER to find a girl's name we both agreed on so we're not changing...
I just hope it turns out to be a boy. lol
4Nope my girl's name is not on this list! We did love the name Aidan when we were thinking of boy names. And I can't seem to find any other boy names that we really agree on. Ohh well!
5Wow I know someone with a son and a daughter whose names are Aiden and Emma.
6But Chloe wasn't on the list that's good, though it's still really popular. It was the first name that we both agreed on. I wanted something unusual, and my husband wasn't having that!
My cat is named Lily, hehe. And my favorite boy name has always been Ethan but my husband doesn't like it so we won't be using it.
7Not even close. My two daughters' names aren't even in the top 1,000 names. Our baby boy due next month will not have a top 1,000 name, either.
My other sons are in the top 100.
8I am so heartbroken that Ava is so popular now. I really wanted to name my daughter Ava Marie. Oh well.
9my daughter's name is not on the list, but damn torri spelling had to go and name her daughter stella too! i hope it doesn't have a resurgence because of that, she is pretty d-list these days so i probably don't have too much to worry about.
10No. My oldest son falls just out of the top 100, my second son somewhere around 800 last time I checked, and my daughter's name has never cracked the top 1000. I like it but it's a pain to have to personalize everything since none of them come in premade stuff. *lol*
11The names we have picked out aren't in the top 10.
Jordan is the boy --- which is kind of close to Jayden.
I want to name our daughter Emerson -- and her nickname would be Emmy - Which is rather popular these days.
12Our son, Creighton, isn't on the list at all! I love his name, especially since it is so unique!
13my boys aren't on the top 10. i don't want to offend anyone, but if i have to hear another boy named jayden/braden/aiden/caden and all their variations, i will scream.
14My daughters name probably wont be on any lists, ever, hopefully. We chose Kairi. its actually japanese and most people think its pronounced as carrie instead of ky-ree, though thats more the american pronunciation then the true japanese pronunciation. I dont mind the whole personalization thing becuase i never had it as a kid, either. Katrina was very uncommon while I was growing up, only met 2 other Katrina's and it was NEVER on any of those personalized cups/licnese plates/rulers, etc. I hear it all the time now though.
I loved the names Ava, Oliva, and Ella, years ago, but im SO glad we didnt choose anything like that. They are soo popular now. I wanted to name my daughter Kairi before she was even born, and luckily my husband was totally supportive of it. Hes chosen our sons name, if we have one. It seemed like everyone and their brother suddenly liked Jayden for both boys and girls. I also loved Isabella, and Isabelle, but theyre really popular the past year or two, and espeically now becuase of Twilight. Good thing I loved Arabella more, it was my second choice for a girls name.
15My son's name is Dakota, which seems to be a pretty popular name for both sexes.
16not my kids, but olivia and ave are really common here. as in the kids have to go my their first and middle name or their first name and last initial, olivia marie and olivia s. because there are 3 in the class, on the team, etc.
17named our son Atlas..for a few reasons
1. definitely NOT a top 1000 maybe even 100000 name!
2. as a kid i used to love reading greek mythology.
3. 'Atlas Shrugged' by Ayn Rand.
4. the meaning + him being our first born and SON...Atlas was fitting.
I was thinking about Ava for if we have a daughter one day...but now that i see it's top 10, maybe Avianna or *Acacia<--for it's reference to Christianity/Old Testament.
18MissSushi - I love the name Kairi, it's the name of the girl in the Kingdom Hearts video games, too.
19my daughter name is isabella....#4 on the list. we just picked cuz we liked it.
20ooh, yeah, krae. Several years ago, I was working in a inbound call center when a woman called in and her name was Kairi. I really loved the name at the time, but didnt know anything about it. Years later, I met my husband and he got me to try out Kingdom Hearts, and as soon as i heard her name i was like, OMG! So, you could technically say i named her after a video game character, lol, but i did research on the name before choosing it.
21My name is Susan, my Dad had my name picked out 30 years prior to my birth (He was 40 when I was born)
It was popular in the 70's. Everyone's Mom is name Susan.
I'm 20, and have yet to meet a Susan my age or under 35.
22my friends name is like that, susan. her father literally hopped the border when he met her mom, and had always loved the "american" name Sharon... a really outdated name by the time she was born just before the 90s lol
23I have a very contemporary name for my age group, there are so many names similar to mine that it's aggravating! I wouldn't mind being a bit out of date, if just to set me apart.
24I want to name my girl Isabella, Isa because my best friends name is Isabeau and Bella because I have always loved it. It sucks that it so popular
25Not on the list. Which is a bit surprising for me. Sure she'll probably never meet anyone with the same name when we live here but if we'd move to her daddy's "home turf" it would be totally different.
26Ava is one of my top girl names & Cayden is one of my top boy names (for future children)...it sucks that they have both have gotten so popular. Well, according to the polls at least...I've never known or heard anyone called Ava or Cayden in real life. I've heard of a LOT of Aidans though. Ugh, I want my future children to have an original name, but it will also be nice if they will be able to find her name on those personalized license plates, key chains, etc. I hated never being able to find my name on those things...well they had my name, but not the correct spelling.
27My SIL and BIL named both of their boys with very popular names; their son that was born this year is on the Aiden wagon. I don't understand this mentality. One of our friends had a baby and named it Allison and my SIL commented that it was a surprising name choice because it wasn't trendy. Huh? I wouldn't want to put my child in a situation where there were going to be two or three kids in his/her class with the same name. I grew up in the situation and it can get confusing.
28So... I guess the survey was 'Ethnic people need not apply'...tacky.
29I don't mind popular names at all, I just don't like what I refer to as "trendeigh" names where the spellings are all jacked up. Like Mikynzeigh for Mackenzie. I didn't choose my kids' names with the intent of them being different, we just chose what we liked.
30I don't like 'misspelled' names either. I think that's because my name is Crystal. People always try to spell it Khristle or something. I always respond "No! Just the normal spelling!" Annoys the heck out of me.
Although I guess one of the girls names we have picked out - "Robyn" is kind of a trendy spelling. Although I also think it is a rather accepted spelling.
31My name is Olivia, but I'm in college now, and growing up I NEVER knew anyone named Olivia... it's crazy! But now I know bunches of little kids named Olivia. I guess my mom was slightly ahead of the time, lol!
32I should clarify that I don't have a problem with trendy names, I have a problem with only looking at names that are trendy. I've always loved the name Hannah; but I will give using it as a name a second look because it is sort of popular.
33Greggie, I had to giggle at your comment because when you click on the link for the story above, the "questions and answers" things that shows up on the right hand side answers a question about how one should handle people criticizing a baby name and the featured answer starts out with "omg what sucky names!!! ewwwwww!!! i am considering (name w/ nickname) MycElliot (ellie) MycKaiylah (kaylee) MycKenzeigh..."
34Argh! We named our daughter Lily because it was simple, pretty, and feminine and because (we though) it was NOT so very popular. After she was born in June, all of a sudden, I kept hearing of babies being named Lily!! Go figure. I hope she doesn't have 5 Lilys in her classes at school.
35i like jack, isabella and sophia, but prefer sophie.
36the other ones are just whatever. especially aiden, addison, emma, lily, hayley and jayden--i have no clue why those names are so popular?! especially aiden from satc... why would you name your kid after him?! no offense! just my opinion
the ones which i like and am disappointed about being popular are chloe and hannah.9though not in top ten) i might go with chloe anyways (if i am blessed with a daughter) because i REALLY love the name~! haha
I have no idea who Aidan on SATC is, I never watched the show.
37i'm totally with you greggie or should i say, greighghee. i hate, hate, hate "trendeigh" names where people tweak the spelling in an attempt at creativity. alas, no one ever asks me though, about my opinion on this so i had to sound off here.
38Nope, our kid's names don't fall in the top ten but not uncommon either. Being a Sofia growing up I always felt I had an odd name because it was uncommon, but now there are a ton of little Sophie's around.
39Greighghee. *lol*
Although people always think my second son and my daughter's names are misspelled or "unique" spellings. They're not.
40I know many Isabellas and Sophias. Emma was used up long ago, hard to believe it's still number one. While I'm for traditional, I don't like popular. Too unique is just irritating. Hard times for names...LOL.
41My daughter is #53-Julia and my son is #21-Alexander...
But they are 13 and 18 respectively, so...
42My name didnt crack the 100. thank goodness.
43I named my first daughter Olivia, #5 on the list, oh well. The name is beautiful and it fits her and it rolls off the tongue well when I'm hollering at her! ha ha ha My second daughter is Violet, which I had picked out for two years before she was born, and then Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner had to name their daughter that and she was born two weeks before my Violet was. But both names are beautiful and fit both girls. I hate these lists because I think you should name a child something that you like, something that is PERSONAL, so what if it's a trendy name!
44i'm so ticked off Lily is popular now. i've loved that name for years. when kate beckinsale named her daughter that it was the first i'd seen a lily younger than 65.
45I don't care if a name is 1 or 1 million, if I like it I will use it. The names I hate most are the ones named after products. My daugher has a Dasani in her class.
Neither of my kids names are in the 100. My daugher not in the 1,000 my son might be but I never checked. My name will never make it onto any list.
46Could somebody tell me what SATC is? Our son is named Aidan and I had no idea it was popular when we chose it. My husband has a really strong Scottish heritage and I have a strong Irish heritage so we were going for a Celtic or Gaelic name. We wanted Ian or Liam, but we have friends who had those names. None of our friends had heard the name Aidan when we chose it so we thought it was safe. Then we heard it was number one or two that year. Now it is everywhere with all of its ridiculous knock-offs (Jayen, Brayden, Caden, etc.) I didn't know it was on a TV show. That would explain it.
47Sex and the City. I don't think the names that rhyme are knock-offs, though.
I also agree with Roarman that popularity doesn't decide a name for us, whether or not we like it does. Although it's difficult to find good Italian boy names we like and still have them be popular anyway.
48Sorry to all parents here if I am being offensive, but what really irritates me is when parents name their kids something that sounds good as a kid, but maybe not so much as an adult without variation. A cousin of mine is about 6 and his name is Jayden. sounds cute now, but in high school, I bet he will be Jay? Why? Because Jayden just doesn't seem to fit (in my head) a 17 yr old! I feel the same way about Aiden and those. The girls name I dislike the most is Kayla. It's so cute for a little girl, but for a teenager, it sounds a little too childish.
I'm Christine. I don't go by Christine, but ya know, Christine will last me until I am dead, and I won't have a 12 yr old name. Same for friends of mine like Deena, Jaclyn, Madelyn, Grace, etc. Nice names for kids, but names that fit even in old age.
As for me...I used to adore Ava. Now, I see it and I'm like god, I wish everyone and their mother would stop naming their kids that!
I am going to name my future son, if I have one, James. It's been decided.
49I'm always changing my thoughts on girls names. I like Madelyn, Jackie (just Jackie), and Brooke. Some others as well, but it's always changing.
I think Jayden and Aiden/Aidan sound fine on adults/teenagers. I know plenty of adult men named Aidan. I don't think they're "kid" names at all.
