Once a couple decides to make room for baby, they get to creating one. Some potential mamas toss their pill packs or have their partners forgo condoms. Other wanna be parents rely on science and ovulation calculators.
Fifty-three percent of lilsugar readers said they had sex and waited for the plus sign, while thirty-five percent confessed that they mapped their conception plan out. Whether you winged it or plotted, how long did it take you to get pregnant?

We've been trying for more than two years now. I knew we'd have a little bit of problems due to my PCO but now it's just getting depressing. The fact that SIX people from work just found out they are expecting within the last couple weeks doesn't help either. We're in the process of looking into fertility pills now.
1The first time we got pregnant was a big whoops! When my husband was shot in the leg when he was in Afghanistan the Dr.s checked hem out very thoroughly and found that his sperm count was super low, and told him that he would probably need help when he wanted to have kids. Me on the other hand I was off my Depo shot for over 3 years and nothing. So between that and me losing 20 lbs in a year I wasn't having a period. 3 months into the relationship I was getting all the signs. Sure enough, the pee stick said I was having a baby! Now I am tracking my signs for this one. It feels silly but I've had baby fever for for over a year now. We didn't want to start trying until we knew we were moving into a bigger home.
2Cassie I wish you the best of luck, and hope for a miracle happens for you.
3I have PCOS and my husband has issues, so after fertility drugs and 4 unsuccessful IUIs (and 1 miscarriage) over the course of a few years, we were told IVF was our best option. We were fortunate that it worked on the first attempt last year. Now we are planning to try for our second child with our remaining frozen embryos next spring.
48 months from stopping the depo shot for 1st son and 8 months stopping the depo shot for the 2nd son
5It didn't take any time at all really. The first two were surprises. The third one was a surprise as well, but only because we had just suffered an early miscarriage and were waiting for my period to return so we could begin trying. My period never came because I was already pregnant again.
6didn't take much time, fertile myrtle here, first try actually
7Twelve weeks!
8Didn't take much time either. Both my children were wonderful surprises!
95 years. i too, have pcos, but wasn't diagonsed immediately. We were successful with injectables and timed intercourse (insurance wouldn't cover IUI).
103 months for the first child and It took 3 months to get prego this time. I'm currently 12 wks.
11My first was a surprise. I'd been told my chances of getting pregnant without ovulation-inducing medication was really low. I ended up having a miscarriage without ever knowing I was pregnant, and a month later I got pregnant with my oldest son. We were charting with our NFP and knew it was a "possible" time, but between rarely ovulating and then miscarrying right away, we didn't really think anything would happen. Luckily we were wrong.
And the
pregnancy triggered my ovulation hormones to work on their own, so once my son was six months and my period returned, I began ovulating every 28 days.
My second was planned right to his due date. In 2001, my husband walked in a day or two after Thanksgiving and said "Wouldn't it be fun to have a tiny baby with us next Christmas?" So a couple months later we put in a try and lo and behold, ended up with a due date of Dec 24th. He came on the 6th though.
My daughter was absolutely a shocker. My cycles had become really close together, but she was conceived on the day I ended my period.
12Cassie, I can relate! It took me about 2.5 years to get pregnant and it was so hard seeing EVERYONE getting pregnant. It was kind of at the beginning of the hollywood baby boom as well and I was so jealous every time I saw another pregnant celeb!
13Not really mean jealous, just sad jealous ..
There was nothing wrong with us ... it just wasn't happening. I was getting pretty hopeless. Then it just happened. I still have no idea how you can try for so long with nothing, and then just like magic, there it is. My son is now 14 months old and I am well aware of how lucky we are, and that not everyone is. Don't give up!
We got married when we were living on different continents. But after I moved to be with him I was pregnant within 6 weeks! I couldn't believe it! I had been on the pill for so many years I really thought it would take a LOT longer. Our baby was born on our first anniversary.
14Hang in there, Cassie. And if you haven't already, definitely see a specialist if you can. After over 2 years of trying I started seeing one about 2 months ago, and it's amazing how much more knowledgeable and proactive he is than my ob-gyn was. I guess they're not called specialists for nothing
. I fall into the unexplained infertility category, which means that everything looks fine with me and my husband, but for some reason things still aren't working.
Right now we're using a combination of Clomid and hcg injections to make sure I ovulate, and then intrauterine insemination. We just did our second try last weekend and I'm hoping and praying
that it works this time. It really is such a hard thing to go through. Take good care of yourself...and good luck
!
15we conceived after 4 months of infertility treatments due to PCOS
16Complicated question.. Diagnosed PCOS, lost 75 lbs, started trying in June and found out we were pregnant in August without any fertility aids (other than a few bottles of wine and some new undies!). Once my weight got to a level where my BMI was out of the overweight zone, I'm pretty fertile.
17first few tries!
18whoops for me too.
19been trying for 18 months...i have endometriosis and my hubby's got some mobility issues. I tried clomid for 1 month- got pregnant, miscarried at 6 weeks. We're thinking about trying IUI but i'm so not into going back on clomid... terrible side effects but would be worth it if it resulted in a baby.
20Took over a year of trying, 2 miscarriages, 3 cycles of Clomid and finally an IUI. I'm 5 weeks pregnant now, so hopefully this one will "stick".
Hormone levels are good this time, which those of you who have been through this know is a
BIG plus.
21I'm a miracle baby. My mother tried for 9 years. Don't give up!
22We have been trying for 1.5 year now and using Clomid for six cycles. We are probably moving to injectables soon. I suffer from PCOS so I'm also tackling my weight. Here's hoping.
23i was surprised, we weren't trying, but we werent really being careful either... married in nov, went on our honeymoon w/out refilling my pill rx (i had so much other stuff on my mind) decided to go off to get my body regulated anyway... and three months later... i was knocked up. i'm convinced we conceived during the week i was on some cough syrup for a chest infection and have heard from other mothers that the robitussin theory is not just a myth, i also have heard that the first three months after going off the pill are fertile months for women as well. I dunno.... maybe the combo was the trick for us... who knows. everyone (especially me) thought it would takes us a very long time to conceive as we're no spring chickens (i will turn 28 for the 11th time this year) so... dont give up hope to those who are trying.... i'm also surprised taht noone here has mentioned acupuncture in their attempts. i have friedns who tried for 5 years... and beleive the acupuncture is what helped them most.
24I came off of my BC at the end of July and two weeks later we were pregnant! I thought since I was on BC for 8 years non stop it would take longer but it did not!
25All you are so lucky! I have been of the BCP since January and STILL no cycles. Because I am only 25 they told me I have to wait a year before they do anything. Oh well.
26the first time was a total surprise--- hubby and i were only engaged for a month and there was only one time we were'nt totally 'safe'. the second time we tried for 4 months. now have 2 beautiful daughters... 18 months apart!
27I took a month to get pregnant, too fast and easy!!!
28We got pregnant on the first try. I do really appreciate that, especially knowing so many people who have trouble getting pregnant. Both of my sisters had miscarriages and I thought about it every day of my first trimester, but thank goodness my baby made it all the way through. I have Type 1 diabetes and I like to say that things worked out so well with getting pregnant because the pregnancy itself would have alot of it's own challenges.
29First try for us. Good luck to all the ladies that are trying
30roxtarchic - I love you!! (I just turned 28 for the 7th time). People around me are starting to raise eyebrows b/c I'm so "old" to start trying but I'm very healthy and want to give my body a year to do it on it's own. I went off BC (ring) 2 months ago - thank you for reminding me that despite the cliff everyone tells me you fall off of once you turn 35, that most people are get lucky!!
31DD was a surprise. One month of no birth control and only natural family planning trying to avoid. This little one took 2 months of TTC. (Supplements, charting, etc.)
321st attempt, as folks would say fertile Myrtle.
