When it comes to carting home candy, children have a lot of options — plastic bags and containers, even noise-making plush handled pumpkins or cardboard carriers. But for moms and dads that want to save money and have their wee ones get more mileage out of their treat sacks, use pillowcases. They hold more trinkets and sweets than the other options and can be slipped under your tot's head to lull them to sleep.

We always used pillowcases, easier to carry, big enough to hold alot of candy and the sound the candy makes inside shuffling about is awesome!
1I would go fill up a king size pillow case. go home drop it off, head out hte other direction on the block. Oh the good old days before I cared about calories
2My son was pointing to his "candy" bag from his party at school for trick-or-treating tonight - it's a lunch sack sized paper bag. I chuckled and told him that it was wholly inadequate for Halloween trick-or-treating! He got very concerned about what he would use, and I said "We're going Old School baby!" Off the the linen closet we went and voila out came a 1980's era Garfield pillow case (I can't believe I STILL have that sheet set).
Pillow cases are the best - free, multi purpose and what I relate to the most! LOL. He was pretty pleased with the prospect!
