I think it's naive of the ParentDish writer to not believe such a high number of c-sections aren't by request. With medical advances, giving birth vaginally is more likely than ever, yet c-sections are still increasing rapidly. Yes, a lot are by choice. It doesn't diminish those of us who had them by necessity, or claim that those weren't medically indicated. It's just a fact. I wish the US would take a close look at their rates the way the UK is.
However, I have trouble blaming a woman who is fearful and requests it of her OB/GYN. But I do have trouble with doctors who automatically grant that request with no medical indication whatsoever, much like ones who will induce labor just because mom's sick of being pregnant.
Again, I do not mean in any way that c-sections and inductions are never necessary. I am proof that both have their place, and I am eternally grateful that they were made available to me. But it's also no secret that OBs who will induce/perform surgery because they want to make tee time are becoming more and more common.
1haha im going to be a bee too!
