David Duchovny and Tea Leoni have been separated for a while, but kept it from the public in the best interest of their two children — Madelaine West, 9, and Kyd, 6. The former couple issued the following statement:
"In light of continuous speculation over the lives and marriage of Tea Leoni and David Duchovny, the couple has confirmed that they have in fact been separated for several months. The couple had hoped to keep this separation private for the sake of their children."

I've never been in a situation where it's been a remote need, and hope I never am.
1We've never been in such a situation either, Greggie. And I agree, I hope I never am.
2never have, kids were to young to realize what happened
3Kids aren't stupid. They may not know the intimate details of every situation, but they pick up on subtle changes in behavior and emotions.
They know when their world has changed, even if they can't express what they perceive. I'm for being more honest because at least the kiddos know WHY (with age-appropriate details). What if they blame themselves or something completely off-base for the differences they perceive? That is incredibly unfair to leave a kid in the dark to imagine all sorts of things.
I understand and respect the wish to protect kids from harm. Living a lie is harmful in itself.
4I have lied to my kids to protect them, there was a period where I was going through something terrible and crying my eyes nearly swollen shut...so I blamed it on allergies. I'm comical so I think they believed me enough not to worry to much. Now, that they are old enough to understand, I explain it in a subjective manner.
5But not living a lie so to speak, no.
oh yeah. autism has that side "benefit".
