When it comes to baby products, it seems that everything has already been invented. Cushions for car seat straps, mixers for bottles of formula, swaddle blankets for dummies, and loads of other contraptions. So when I see something totally new and creative, I tend to have a, "Why didn't I think of that?" moment.
That's what I thought when I saw these funtastic car seat covers from Babbaco ($88). New moms frequently take their newborns on strolls and cover their infant seats with blankets in hopes of shielding their offspring from direct sunlight, loud conversations, or inquisitive strangers. Along comes a gust of wind and the blanket flies off into the wind along with mommy's plan. Created by mother Jessica Kim, the sprightly covers have an elastic bottom that offers babies protection and privacy. And, unlike blankets, two peepholes allow mommy to keep an eye on her little cocoon nesting without interrupting the wee one's slumber.

This makes me LAUGH because there is no way in hell my son would have stood for this AT ALL (ands still won't). We had to stop using our infant seat with our stroller when he was about 4 weeks old because he couldn't stand to be where he couldn't see everything. I tried to cover him up once in the seat and he screamed. It always amazes me that babies can stand to be that way. He refuses to nap in public and certainly has to see at all times.
They are cute, though.
1I don't understand how, "unlike blankets," you can keep an eye on the child. Are you normally covering your child's face with a blanket? Even if all you do it drape it over the carseat handle, you can peek under the side without disrupting the child.
I just tucked blankets around them, even in high winds they didn't fly off.

6It seems it would be, LilRuck. But I always see babies in their carseat totally covered with a blanket and they seem content. And not newborns either, but older babies. It just cracks me up.
7I love these! The designs are great... my favorite is the car one! And I know not every baby is the same, but all the babies that I work with in nursery love that fuzzy protected/hidden feeling of being wrapped up and safe. Lots of baby showers to go to in the next few months, so these will be on my possible-gift lists...
8I have to say - I got one as a gift, and I LOVE it! I live in Chicago, and it's already been useful for rainy/windy days (my baby has remained warm and dry)... and will be even more useful when winter hits! It shields my baby during my walks without the risk of flying off, and I think it will do a better job of protecting my baby in the winter than a something like a BundleMe. And the 2 little windows (with the option to open or keep closed) help me keep an eye on my little guy while I'm trucking him around... and allows him to see out with full view. I think it's a must for all active moms!

10These don't help baby feel wrapped up and safe, though. They don't even touch the baby.
11If your that desperate couldn't you just sew some elastic around a blanket and cut out a hole and velcro it so you can check or something?
12this concept is not new. I had something like this 6 years ago when my daughter was a baby. It sure didn't cost $88 but it was a lifesaver in sub-zero temperatures during the winter in Alaska.
