Pregnancy often brings clumsiness along with it. I try my best to avoid precarious situations, but sometimes my body does its own thing. While flats typically make my legs look short and stubby, they usually afford me a level of comfort and agility.
The other day I sported a new pair of bright blue ballet flats to work and was feeling quite agile for a woman entering her last trimester. As I made my way down the San Francisco hills, I stepped on the smooth surface of an electrical cover and completely ate it. Both feet flew out from under me leaving my tush and hands to break the fall. Humiliated of course, I slowly pulled myself together and gingerly walked the rest of the way to the bus stop. Luckily, I got a seat and was able to lick my wounds.
I refuse to wear sneakers with a dress, but I'm not sure what other footwear would work if my flats aren't doing the trick. Combat boots?

you poor thing. I thought you were going to bring up crazy bus lady-lol! Hop you are ok and so
glad you got a seat on the bus. I hate sneakers with skirts/dresses. It seems like 60% of the women do this here in DC. You need something cute but with some traction. Don't they make a shoe
pad (dr. Scholl's) for the bottoms of shoes? Maybe like a sandpaper finish for a bit of traction? I thought there was something out there. Please, be careful. Heck, risk the fashion no-no if
it means safety in these critical last months

I feel your pain! My doc ordered me to take off my 1" heels at 7 months pg but I'm already under 5ft. It's bad enough I can't reach anything with heels let alone without. It was painful but I had to suck it up and wear fugly flats. booo! It sounds like a good opportunity for shoe designers, comfy flats that look good. Hmm, what a concept. ;p
