Do You Interfere in Play Time?

I vacationed with friends and their toddlers this weekend and all of the parents anticipated some bickering and "mine! mine! mine!" drama over toys. The three tots ranged in age between 20 months and two years. Instead of interfering in the quarrels, the moms agreed to let the kids duke it out on their own for the first few minutes. We decided if the babes couldn't resolve the situation on their own after five minutes or so we would get involved. For the most part, the children figured it out on their own and learned how to deal with each other without hovering moms.

I definitely try to let the kids talk it out, but since I'm often playing down with them, I make suggestions quite a bit- "Well, Juliette, maybe Gianna wants to try the car for a minute. Can I borrow your purple crayon, Devan?"

I like to let them figure it out for them selves. So they learn how to share and let other have a turn .
